Problem: Grinding in wheel gears.

Cause: Torn boots, dry axle gears, bad bearing.

Solution: Check all lubrication. Jack up wheels and hand turn them and listen or feel for problems. IN MY CASE, the grinding only starts in the rear passenger side after driving at least 40 mph for 20 miles consecutively. I am still testing to identify the exact cause and solution.

Problem: Broken Accelerator pedal

Cause: Damaged AC condensation drain tube allowing water to settle at the pedal base plate which then rots the floor out.

Pedal damageAC drain foam

Solution:  Replace the damaged foam AC drain tube with a rubber and duct tape tube. Then weld a new pedal connector in place with seam sealant, rust inhibiting paint spray and rubber coating. Also spray the bottom of the car. I riveted my pedal plate in place because I didn’t make the plate large enough to weld to solid floor metal.

Problem: RUST! ARE YOU IN AN ICY CLIMATE? If you are in 80% of the USA your vehicle is at risk. Some of the main places and parts to keep protected include the fender well cover along the floor support & the independent suspension. A hole will rust out in the fender along the frame support and moisture will get into the lower frame and find it’s way down on to the suspension parts.

Mercedes Shock RustRear PAssenger Quarter

Solutions: Re-coat your fender wells with truck liner as needed. IF it is too late you will find that the rear shock mounts sit in a bowl made to support the spring and that will rust out. To get that replaced is a major job as the spring support and the wheel base and axle are ALL attached to this suspension arm and they will need to be removed. The main suspension arm will likely be rusted and you will have to cut off the bolt head and cut out the support tube away from the rubber bushing because it is usually rusted to the bolt.

Suspension Bolt Grinding Suspension Bolt

REMOVE your suspension arm bolts right now and go grease them if it is not too late!!! Make sure you jack the arm up and keep it in place while removing the bolt because if you let it tweek out of place it is a pain in the ass to get the freshly greased bolt to start threading.

Problem: Floor Board and trunk rust rot (usually due to failing door/trunk seals)

Solutions: Replace or repair seals. Treat them often with rubber conditioner.

Door Seal b4Door Seals

Problem: Window switch is not working. The rear window switch on the rear door works but not the front control switch. (The switches get goo in them over time and the contacts arc and burn out.)

Solutions: Disassemble the switch and clean the contacts and other parts with a razor blade and rotate them before reassembling.

Switch Cleaning 1 Switch Cleaning

Problem: Transmission or drive shaft allows the vehicle to role about 2 inches when put into park.

Solutions: The main issue is likely that the bushing between the two pieces of the axle is getting worn out. This is very common and is not known to brake completely so there is little risk of being stranded. The drive shaft joint fingers also are very flexible and the give increases with ware.

Problem: Transmission shifts hard and horse power seams weak.

Solutions: *LATE ’84 or newer models have a unique shifting vacuum pressure line out of the banjo bolt found on the drivers side of the valve cover. Test by removing the vacuum filter line for the shifting and bypass it by plugging it up. It shifts smoother and increased my horsepower because the extra shifting filter really is not necessary and decreases the pressure too much. This is also a way to test if your turbo is working by unplugging it while vehicle is running to see how much pressure is coming through the banjo.

Problem: Concerned how good my engine seals are and if they are causing too much blow by and oil leaking.

Solution: You can put your thumb over the vent hole on the top of the valve cover to get a good idea how healthy your ring seals are. The longer the engine continues to run, the better the seals. 3 seconds means run away from that engine while 6 seconds is average and 9 or more is like new! Mine is 7ish  🙂

Problem: Transmission shifts hard, then sometimes it stops and has no power and no acceleration?

1. Check the Tranny Levers/Valves and throttle linkage.

In my case, the throttle pivot bushing connecting the pedal arm to the accelerator linkage connected to the firewall was broke. (see pictures below)

This part is $54+ from PeachParts:

$41+ from :

A: 1984+ has a metal tranny valve  lever on top of the engine

B: <1983 has (2) plastic levers

2. Clean the Banjo-bolt and LINE located on back of engine, near transmission fluid dip stick at rear of exhaust manifold. (*Need cleaning agent and wire brush) Remove line from firewall switch-over valve.

A: 1984+

B: <1983

Switch-over valve line to banjo bolt cleaned? (if you by-pass the switch over, your engine can not prevent over fueling from over boost! This will ruin the engine by ______ ?

3. Clean Fuel and air system (filters, sea foam etc.)

4. check vacuum system (adjust tranny linkage) The 5 way connector by the throttle linkage on pre 1983’s or the 4 ways on 1984+ is usually swollen from oil vapors and heat.

Start at the ALDA with vacuum tester, and if the pressure is not making it that far, then you’ll need to investigate to figure out what is the source of the problem.  Make sure you’ve got the ALDA – there are also vacuum fittings connected to the vacuum shut-off valve on the injection pump,

You can modify the vacuum lines. Remove all lines to the head valve cover. The main vacuum supply goes to a single T as seen in the photo. One end of the T goes to the vacuum control valve (via the green dampener) and the remaining end goes off to the transmission. Note the restriction orifice remains in the line to the vacuum control valve.

One T is completely eliminated……..the line to the black box on top of the valve cover is eliminated. The vent line goes directly to the vacuum control valve. Second T is completely eliminated. The return vent line to the black box on top of the valve cover is eliminated. Remove the line from the black box to the temperature switch on the thermostat housing. Finally, the line from the temperature switch to the EGR valve is eliminated. Opened up the black box and pull out the remains of the 3-2 switches. The IP linkage works a bit smoother when you don’t need to force the cam.

*By removing the EGR vacuum lines connected to the Switchover (3/2) valves and temperature switch, you improve mileage and power but lose first gear and increase carbon blow back. (The 3/2 valves activate the transmission’s 1st gear).

5. check kickdown solenoid performance

Check that the kickdown solenoid isn’t stuck. A simple test you could do is turn the key on and have a helper press the go pedal to kickdown a couple times. You should be able to feel or hear the solenoid click. If it is stuck, pressing the pedal to kickdown quite a few times may free it up.

There is a button under the pedal connected to a cable to the solenoid in the rear of the transmission.

6. check/adjust throttle linkage

Adjustment Of Cable Control For Control Pressure. Vehicles with engine 617.95.

  1. Push off ball socket (19).
  2. Push ball socket (19) first to the rear (opposite to direction of arrow), then pull carefully forward (direction of arrow) until a slight resistance is felt.
  3. In this position, hold ball socket (19) above ball head ; drag lever (13) should rest against stop (14).
  4. Adjust control pressure cable control at adjusting screw (15) in such a manner that the ball socket (19) can be pushed free of tension on ball head.

Mercedes Benz 300D Shifting Problem

7. Check/Replace change-over valve.

The vacuum line from the rear of the intake manifold goes to the changeover valve which is operated by DC power.  From the changeover valve the line goes on the the ALDA. A new Changeover valve has returned the engine back to it original power at all speeds according to some. This is located next to the brake booster.

8. Adjust ENGINE valves (*Need 13mm torque wrench for header bolts, new Gasket maybe, MM feeler gauge, 27mm socket, 2 angled 17mm wrenches (tightner wrench needs to be skinny to fit on tightner nut under adjuster nut, baggies for parts, paper and marker to label parts and mark rocker arm as completed)

A. put 27mm socket on crank pulley to turn engine

B. loosen air breather tube from base but leave attached to head plate or you will break it and need to replace. Remove header bolts a turn each at a time to prevent header warping. Gently shimmy header loose to protect gasket and avoid replacing.

C. Crank engine with 27mm on pulley until valve #1 cam rocker arm is straight up. Loosen lock nut on bottom, move adjuster on top to desired spacing. Tighten lock nut.

D. set intake valves at .004 inch (drivers side), exhaust/out take valves to .012 inches (passenger side)

E. repeat for each valve and reconnect header with 2 or 3 torque clicks of pressure (aprox. 15lbs. of pressure?) and breather tube

9. adjust ALDA  (Automatische Lade Druck Anreicherung – Automatic load pressure enrichment) Adjusting may not do anything? 1/2 turn counter clockwise should result in light smoke from exhaust which signifies more fuel being processed by engine and increased power. BE CAREFULL, the screw is easy to break!

In a nut shell the ALDA unit sits on top of the fuel injection pump and contains 2 aneroid capsules and some internal linkage, that enriches the fuel deliver in response to altitude and intake manifold pressure.  When the turbo charger starts making boost the small banjo bolt  and accompanying plastic line, transmits this pressure signal to the switchover valve on the firewall.

IF YOU REMOVE the ALDA …. BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT FULL THROTTLE TAKE OFFS, don’t do them. It will run very rich under acceleration but OK under cruising, watch your temp. If you leave it off you’ll need a manifold boost gauge and pyrometer to avoid overheating pistons

10. EGR VALVE plugged or plated off with steel

Unplug the vacuum line going to the EGR valve (in front of the air cleaner)  IF there is a power increase service the EGR Valve. IF you leave it blocked, it is recommended to use Bio Diesel as much as possible to minimize exhaust carbon from breaking down the vacuum rubber components and causing build up on other parts.

11. Check the timing

Check the timing marks on the cam gear and tower with the crank pulley at TDC. IF off/retarded by more than 5 degrees replace the timing chain which brings the timing to 2.5 degrees retarded. Offset woodruff keys are available to further correct timing.

12. Replacing the injectors will improve starting, performance, and limit exhaust smoke.

13. Check Fuel Rack Damper Bolt

Replacing or adjusting fuel rack damper bolt improves idle and smoothes the engine shake.

Loosen the lock nut and screw the bolt in until the engine smooths out and then back it out and go in again, just to make sure it’s in the right place. Tighten lock nut.

You really only want it screwed in as far as you need to stop the wild side to side rocking. Once that stops, screwing it in further is not going to make it smoother. These engines shake and that’s all there is too it. If it’s screwed in too far it will mostly likely stall and be difficult to start.

In anticipation of finishing my book in progress, which happens to be based on documenting the evolution of our Helping Hands Network (, I took a break and started a conversation with my camping neighbor about documentaries. My new friend Erin, was very passionate about The Cove and just deserving with the current Tsunami damage so close. Not to mention, she was of Japanese descent.

In our conversation I found myself thinking about recent conversations with another friend who works in a production studio focused on documentaries and within the coming hours I had begun writing this article to organize all the best doc films in a handy reference. I have also included a few films based on real people and events because of their amazing contributions to society mixed with a lack of existing “documentary film”. It has been a great break from my serious writing, but now it is time to get back to work. I hope you all enjoy the wonderful information I have compiled in the write up. Peace and love ~ tf

Increasingly, Big Coal is spelling big trouble for Appalachian communities whose members have worked the mines for generations. This documentary reveals why with its explanation of the effects of mountaintop-removal mining on the region. Miners, coal company officials and area residents weigh in on the high price of “cheap energy” — especially when it involves blowing off mountain summits to expose seams. Journalist Michael Shnayerson narrates.

~70% of fracking chemical poisons are not biodegradeable and are left in the ground mixing with drinking water supplies.

~80,000lbs. of chemicals are used to first frack each gas well.

~200 millions gallons of water is used per year per natural gas well.

~100+ water hauling trailers are delivered per well per year.

~Loopholes in the 2005 energy bill relieve Gas companies from the EPA’s Clean Water Act regulation!!!!!!!!

“The largest domestic natural gas drilling boom in history has swept across the United States. The Halliburton-developed drilling technology of “fracking” or hydraulic fracturing has unlocked a “Saudia Arabia of natural gas” just beneath us. But is fracking safe? When filmmaker Josh Fox is asked to lease his land for drilling, he embarks on a cross-country odyssey uncovering a trail of secrets, lies and contamination. A recently drilled nearby Pennsylvania town reports that residents are able to light their drinking water on fire. This is just one of the many absurd and astonishing revelations of a new country called GASLAND. Part verite travelogue, part expose, part mystery, part bluegrass banjo meltdown, part showdown.”

GASLAND will be broadcast on HBO through 2012.

Read my comments on GasLand. TBoone Pickens had better come to the defense of the environment and make sure all these companies are drilling safely and respecting the water for the people living in the area. How many earth quake tremors do they need to endure before waking up!?

I am part owner of a natural gas fueling station in Northeast Nebraska ( ) and I am withholding out natural gas committment until these procedures are rectified and included under EPA regulations!!

An unsettling wake-up call to all Americans, this documentary dissects the country’s dependence on foreign pipelines, exposes rich oil companies’ devious dealings, and explores alternative fuels as a viable solution to our global energy crisis. Narrated by actor Peter Gallagher, the film includes interviews with government officials, scientific experts, academics and politicians from both sides of the aisle.

Starting in 2006, I have been volunteering with several renewable energy groups. I educated myself on making biodiesel, building wind turbines, and installation of several other related green products.

I drive a green van, fitted with a hydrogen generator and solar panel power station. I consulted and invested in the foundation of the Nebraska Green Fuels Cooperative with 10 Midwest leaders. (

I am a leading activist in the GREEN FUEL cause so this film is on my DVD pack that you get with any purchase from our Helping Hands Foundation eBay store!

Q: Why is the area that makes gasoline in Louisiana called “Cancer Alley?”
A: There are 150 petro-chemical facilities within 100 miles. The “fallout” (term from the EPA) from these facilities is a toxic cocktail of airborne chemicals that affects food, water and soil. Each refinery puts out hundreds of thousands of pounds of toxic chemicals. There are many studies showing links between these chemicals and the exceedingly high levels of cancer in Louisiana.

Q: What are the only three ways to dispose of the toxic waste produced by oil refineries?
A: Burn it, dump it on land, dump it in water.

Q: What is the difference in fuel economy between diesel and gasoline vehicles?
A: Diesel has better fuel economy by about 30%; avg. 24mpg for gasoline vehicles compared with avg. 45mpg for diesel.

Who Killed the Electric Car (Revenge of the Electric Car coming soon!!!)

With my first book publishing pay check, I am going to go shopping for an electric vehicle. The #1 disappointment I have with my life is that I do not drive an electric vehicle charged by my solar power grid yet.

I ride my bike as much as I can but for daily driving with heavy load requirements, an electric vehicle and an efficient car pool schedule is the ultimate goal.

Currently in wide DVD release, Paine’s film investigates the events leading to the quiet destruction of thousands of new, radically efficient electric vehicles. Through interviews and narrative, the film paints a picture of an industrial culture whose aversion to change and reliance on oil may be deeper then its ability to embrace ready solutions.

Documentarian Tom Jackson turns his lens on some inconvenient truths about energy titan Exxon Mobil and its effect on climate change. Spotlighting the company’s efforts to fund skewed media campaigns and support global-warming skeptics, Jackson builds his case in interviews with leading writers and scientists in the field of climatology. The film also explains the science behind global warming, as well as offering up some solutions to the crisis.

Some of the facts are not disputed fairly by the opposing data so it was destined to be rediculed. But the core facts regarding the increase in average world surface temperature and ocean temperature of our Earth are undisputable. Nearly all our worlds coral reefs are bleached clean from the combintion of sea life depletion and increased water temperatures.

From director Davis Guggenheim, An Inconvenient Truth is a passionate and inspirational look at former Vice President Al Gore’s fervent crusade to halt global warming’s deadly progress by exposing the myths and misconceptions that surround it. In this intimate portrait of Gore and his “traveling global warming show,” Gore comes across as never before in the media – funny, engaging, open and intent on alerting citizens to this “planetary emergency” before it’s too late.

Interspersed with the bracing facts and future predictions is the story of Gore’s personal journey: from an idealistic college student who first saw a massive environmental crisis looming; to a young Senator facing a harrowing family tragedy that altered his perspective; to the man who almost became President but instead returned to the most important cause of his life. With an emphasis on hope, An Inconvenient Truth ultimately shows us that global warming is no longer a political issue but rather, the biggest moral challenge facing our civilization today.

After having its U.S. debut at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and international premiere at Cannes, An Inconvenient Truth opened to rave reviews and enthusiastic audiences everywhere. A smash hit, the film went on to win Academy Awards® for Best Documentary feature and Best Song. It also became a global phenomenon, one of the highest grossing documentaries of all time with a worldwide audience estimated at 5 million people.

Stunning cinematography and lilting music highlight this exploration of our compulsion to connect with the ocean. Surfers, scientists and those who make their living from the sea discuss why the ocean is vital to our survival and well-being. Pollution, overpopulation and other environmental concerns are examined, as is the spiritual renewal that results from living in touch with the beauty and strength of the ocean.

I practice the traditional ways of my ancestors for most of modern living needs. I mostly only eat what I can grow or obtain for myself. I try to use only hand made, natural, organic items in regards to materialistic industry. I focus on harnessing renewable energy as much as possible and I control the amount of needs by following minimal waste practices. I believe if someone wants to risk mercury poisoning by eating a dolphin or whale, then they should have to go hunt it for themselves and practice the ways of our native elders when it comes to using every piece responsibly. Using large nets to cowardly trap thousands of pounds of dolphins is not acceptable. And what about age selection? There should be a limit on size/age to allow for population balance.

Sometimes,  I just wish T-Rex was back in action to keep the human population in balance and remind us how to respect the species we hunt!

Mercury is the most toxic non-radioactive element in the world and it is released when coal is burned. There is no such thing as clean coal. Mercury falls to the ground and is distributed to streams, rivers and lakes and to the oceans where it is consumed by bacteria and becomes methyl-mercury, an organic form that is then easily absorbed by plankton and zooplankton. Mercury is an immortal element; there is no way to get rid of it once it is released in the environment. Once heavy metals and POP’s (persistent organic pollutants like PCB’s or pesticides) are digested they are very difficult to get rid of and they bio-accumulate in all organisms.

As a general rule, every step up on the food chain these toxins are found, they are magnified about 10 times. The result is that at the top of the food chain, apex ocean predators such as dolphins and swordfish have about a million times more pollutants in them than the water surrounding them. When you consume a pound of swordfish you are consuming the equivalent of a million pounds of floating plankton absorbing toxins. Mercury has a half-life in the human body of about 70-90 days but while it is in the human brain it is destroying neurons vital for sensory perception, memory and motor skills. Advanced stages of mercury poisoning in humans look remarkably similar to mental retardation, cerebral palsy or dementia in adults.

The Hemp Revolution

There is just no logical reason why I can not grow hemp for food, industrial and homestead use. I would agree to a compromise and accept a regulated limit on female THC plants that produce smokeable herb buds but there should be no limit on non THC hemp growth!

As my contribution to legalizing Hemp, I have helped build the business that focuses on hand made, smokeables.

Producer-director Anthony Clarke’s documentary explores the hemp plant’s fascinating history and thousands of uses, as well as the economic and cultural forces behind its prohibition. Clarke argues that the hype surrounding hemp, also known as cannabis or marijuana, has overshadowed the plant’s benefits as a source of paper pulp and its uses as a cotton substitute. He comes down hard on chemical and drug companies as well as the U.S. government.

Communes are a great place to establish free thinking but many encounter leadership hurdles over time. Sometimes rule making and breaking gets carried away. Some communes have more focus on spiritual preaching and less on sustainable living.

I travel the world looking for the healthiest of communities which can be more appropriately titled as EcoVillages. I have written about those in my past and many more will be shared with my readers in my current book in progress.

In 1968, Elsa and Richard Marley founded an alternative-living community in the remote Northern California wilderness with the motto “Free Land for Free People.” This film tells the story of that intended utopia. Through archival footage and interviews with former residents, director Jonathan Berman explores the problems and realities of communal living and the evolution of a community that endured FBI harassment, cult leadership and more.

A New We

Inside look at the world’s EcoVillages. One of my life’s primary objectives is to live, review and contribute to EcoVillage life.  They are the ideal utopian society where commerce is replaced with barter and sharing.

Sustainable living practices are the focus, taking renewable energy and sharecrop farming to provide the freedom for our inner artistic souls to blossom!

The variety of situations and voices in A New We inspires hope for the future of humanity and all life on the planet. The lives shown here are more motivated by imagination, vision, respect and cooperation than by economic forces and social expectations. In these 10 communities, the creative solutions to many social, environmental and economic challenges exemplify the nearly infinite capacity for human-, community- and self-development.

It’s a film that enlightens, encourages and spreads hope – for a new world and A New We.

I come from a long history or Midwest farmers and my family is one of the last surviving small farm owners in Nebraska. Most of the farm land has been purchased by one of the big corporations.

There are a lot of small farm homes left on the land but the crop fields are mostly farmed under contract on behalf of the corporations. Companies like Monsanto have secured politicians and new laws allowing genetic enhanced seeds to be required for most crops. This means that few 2nd generation seeds will germinate forcing the farmers to purchase new seeds every season!

Those of us who have survived this long, dodging home invasions and forced farm practices, are now being regulated by the latest S510 law. Less then 1% of the USA farmers will escape the newest regulations unscathed and the last of us will surely be forced to sell out or retreat to EcoVillages. My EcoVillages are protected by our rights to bear arms and we grow and trade our food amongst ourselves, all while respecting the borders of our s510 regulatory goones.

In Food, Inc., filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation’s food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government’s regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation’s food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, herbicide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won’t go bad, but we also have new strains of E. coli—the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults.

Featuring interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (The Omnivore’s Dilemma, In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto) along with forward thinking social entrepreneurs like Stonyfield’s Gary Hirshberg and Polyface Farms’ Joel Salatin, Food, Inc. reveals surprising—and often shocking truths—about what we eat, how it’s produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here.

A true fight for food freedom. John Peterson leads a CSA movement that crosses into the realm of an EcoVillage. A pinnacle role model for true wellness and healthy living in todays fucked up world. I plan to visit this CSA north of Rockford IL and volunteer there in 2012.

The epic tale of a maverick Midwestern farmer. An outcast in his community, Farmer John bravely stands amidst a failing economy, vicious rumors, and violence. By melding the traditions of family farming with the power of art and free expression, this powerful story of transformation and renewal heralds a resurrection of farming in America.

The film is a haunting odyssey, capturing what it means to be different in rural America.

Director Taggart Siegel Collective Eye made the film in a most unusual way – shooting farmer John Peterson over 25-years of their evolving friendship, and using multiple media, from 8 mm home movies shot on the farm in the 50’s and 60’s to modern video — allowing him to capture his alternately humorous, heartbreaking and spirited life with raw drama and intimacy.

With the death of his father during the late 60s, a teenaged John takes over the traditional family farm, slowly turning it into an experiment of art and agriculture, making it a haven for hippies, radicals and artists. The Real Dirt on Farmer John charts the end of this idealistic era as the farm debt crisis of the 80’s brings about the tragic collapse of the farm.

As the intricate weave of rural America unravels, vicious local rumors turn John into a scapegoat, condemning him as a Satan-worshipping drug-dealer. Threatened with murder, his home burned to the ground, John forsakes his farm and wanders through Mexico, where he is transformed by the soulfulness and pageantry of this ancient land. Mysteriously, his quest leads him back to his hostile homeland.

Defying all odds, he gradually transforms his land into a revolutionary farming community, a cultural mecca, where people work and flourish providing fresh vegetables and herbs to thousands of people every week.

The Peterson family farm has become Angelic Organics, one of the largest Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms in the United States, a beacon of today’s booming organic farming movement.

Most of the world power countries provide their citizens with socialized free health care and it works great for far more on average then the capitalist approach in the USA… so why do we put up with putting our loved ones in eternal debt for expensive meds, insurance and treatment???

Moore also explores the widespread use of antidepressants and their possible link to violence.

Ethos, a powerful new documentary hosted by Woody Harrelson, is an investigation into the flaws in our systems, and the mechanisms that work against democracy, our environment and the the common good.

With a stunning depth of research and breadth of analysis, this film dives deep into the inter-connected worlds of Politics, Multi-National Corporations and the Media.

Most of us have wondered at some point how we have arrived at a situation where democracy is touted as having created an equal society when all we see is injustice and corruption.

Politicians openly deceive the public with the support of major corporations and the mainstream media. Wars are waged, the environment is destroyed and inequality is on the rise.

But what is the source of these institutional mechanisms which – when we scratch the surface – are so clearly anti-democratic, so contradictory to the values we hold in common and yet so firmly embedded that they seem beyond discussion?

Ethos opens a Pandora’s box that has it’s roots in the cross-roads where capitalism-meets-democracy, implicates every power-elite puts profit before people and finally offers a solution whereby you – the viewer – can regain control using the one thing they do care about – your cash.

surviving progress

“Every time history repeats itself the price goes up.”

Surviving Progress presents the story of human advancement as awe-inspiring and double-edged. It reveals the grave risk of running the 21st century’s software — our know-how — on the ancient hardware of our primate brain which hasn’t been upgraded in 50,000 years. With rich imagery and immersive soundtrack, filmmakers Mathieu Roy and Harold Crooks launch us on journey to contemplate our evolution from cave-dwellers to space explorers.

Ronald Wright, whose best-seller, “A Short History Of Progress” inspired this film, reveals how civilizations are repeatedly destroyed by “progress traps” — alluring technologies serve immediate needs, but ransom the future. With intersecting stories from a Chinese car-driving club, a Wall Street insider who exposes an out-of-control, environmentally rapacious financial elite, and eco-cops defending a scorched Amazon, the film lays stark evidence before us. In the past, we could use up a region’s resources and move on. But if today’s global civilization collapses from over-consumption, that’s it. We have no back-up planet.

Surviving Progress brings us thinkers who have probed our primate past, our brains, and our societies. Some amplify Wright’s urgent warning, while others have faith that the very progress which has put us in jeopardy is also the key to our salvation. Cosmologist Stephen Hawking looks to homes on other planets. Biologist Craig Venter, whose team decoded the human genome, designs synthetic organisms he hopes will create artificial food and fuel for all.

Distinguished Professor of Environment Vaclav Smil counters that five billion “have-nots” aspire to our affluent lifestyle and, without limits on the energy and resource-consumption of the “haves”, we face certain catastrophe. Others — including primatologist Jane Goodall, author Margaret Atwood, and activists from the Congo, Canada, and USA — place their hope in our ingenuity and moral evolution.

Surviving Progress leaves us with a challenge: To prove that making apes smarter was not an evolutionary dead-end.

The richest in the world hold the power. If you are not connected to the elite or do not succeed in becoming wealthy through a combination of luck, hard work and/or skill then the odds are you will remain just a pawn in the game of life.

I choose to remain a simpleton, a non-materialistic monk; living day to day as if it were my last. Writing, telling stories and creating freedom of expression to make the world a better place. I reach out to help others on a daily basis and find the best way to defeat our oppressing elite, is to simply live in a near zero waste, organic and sustainable EcoVillage where there is no capitalism and our laws are our own.

The rest of you who choose to live in the capitalistic world and live in worry and fear, I wish you the best from my Islands, forest and wilderness paradise.

On the 20-year anniversary of his groundbreaking masterpiece “Roger & Me,” Michael Moore’s “Capitalism: A Love Story” comes home to the issue he’s been examining throughout his career: the disastrous impact of corporate dominance on the everyday lives of Americans. But this time the culprit is much bigger than General Motors, and the crime scene is far wider than Flint, Michigan.

From filmmaker Charles Ferguson comes this sobering, Oscar-winning documentary that presents in comprehensive yet cogent detail the pervasive and deep-rooted corruption that led to the global economic meltdown of 2008. Through unflinching interviews with key financial insiders, politicos, journalists and academics, Ferguson paints a galling portrait of an unfettered financial system run amok — without accountability. Actor Matt Damon narrates.

DON’t EVEN GET ME STARTED! The biggest fuck up and slaughter a country could ever directly impose upon its citizens short of the actual act of deploying soldiers into a deadly battlefield. This act of treason by our own government is no different then Hitler’s forces attacking northern German Polish border villages and blaming the Polish in order to get invasion support.

One of the most controversial and provocative films of the year, Fahrenheit 9/11 is Academy Award-winning filmmaker Michael Moore’s searing examination of the Bush administration’s actions in the wake of the tragic events of 9/11.

With his characteristic humor and dogged commitment to uncovering the facts, Moore considers the presidency of George W. Bush and where it has led us. He looks at how – and why – Bush and his inner circle avoided pursuing the Saudi connection to 9/11, despite the fact that 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudis and Saudi money had funded Al Qaeda. Fahrenheit 9/11 shows us a nation kept in constant fear by FBI alerts and lulled into accepting a piece of legislation, the USA Patriot Act, that infringes on basic civil rights. It is in this atmosphere of confusion, suspicion and dread that the Bush Administration makes its headlong rush towards war in Iraq and Fahrenheit 9/11 takes us inside that war to tell the stories we haven’t heard, illustrating the awful human cost to U.S. soldiers and their families.

THIS IS WHY I DO NOT PURCHASE/EAT MEAT from sources I do not research!

Learn the shocking truth behind factory farms — gigantic breeding grounds for meat and poultry — in this documentary that details how the practice wreaks havoc on the environment and on consumers’ health. Through disturbing footage and interviews with experts, director Don McCorkell paints a disturbing portrait of a food system that uses hormones, antibiotics and arsenic to increase its output with little regard for the damage it causes.

I saw this film at SxSW 2010 and it does a great job of documenting how our native ancestors have been portrayed by film. Up until the 1940s we were viewed as innocent, loving people but then public interest declined and the violent side of conflict and the defense of forced genocide became the focus.

I spend about 30 days a year on native reservations with my elders and at leadership peace conferences preserving and teaching the traditional ways. If this topic is close to your heart, you should follow my feeds and come visit an event with me this summer.

For more than a century, the film industry has depicted North American native people in a variety of ways — many of them wildly inaccurate. Recently, however, that’s begun to change. Director Neil Diamond captures both sides of the coin here. Through interviews with a gallery of actors and directors, including Clint Eastwood, this documentary reveals the film industry’s impact on the experiences of native people in the United States and Canada.

The above youTube video shows a few minutes of my interview with the director at SxSW 2010. We talked for a long time before and after the film about my ventures and we have stayed in touch since. I also follow Robb Topolski’s blog and his programming work with the Measurement Lab team projects.

Keeping the independent/punk spirit alive, barbershop quartet fan Robb Topolski takes on the nation’s largest cable company, only to find himself at the center of a federal investigation, inspiring a larger story of censorship, individual voice and access.

Is “The Man” controlling the vertical, the horizontal, and the channel you’ll be on?

In a privatized American Internet, is big business “Big Brother” or does the free market protect and serve the needs of the average citizen with its invisible hand? With the simple act of swapping files, barbershop quartet baritone Robb Topolski finds himself at ground zero of a landmark case whose outcome will affect the rights of every American citizen.

Following one man’s personal quest to defend what he believes to be his inalienable rights, BARBERSHOP PUNK examines the critical issues surrounding the future of the American Internet and what it takes to challenge the status quo.

Contemplating the future of the American Internet and the inalienable rights under review, the film features discussions with Ian MacKaye, Damian Kulash of OK Go, Henry Rollins, Janeane Garofalo, EFF’s John Perry Barlow, U.S. Congressman Chip Pickering, Congressman Marsha Blackburn, Free Form DJ Jim Ladd, Clinton White House Press Secretary Mike McCurry, Michelle Combs of the Christian Coalition, Songwriters Guild President Rick Carnes, NARAL’s Ted Miller, lobbyist Jack Burkman, and FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein, among others.

This is one of my favorite films. It does an amazing job to provide links and factual documentation against illegal seizure of your hard earned money for INCOME TAX.

It also gives a clear picture of the history of the Federal Reserve. By the time you are done watching this, you should be buying silver and gold like most of my friends and family!

Acclaimed filmmaker Aaron Russo directs this thorough investigation into the creation of the Federal Reserve and the controversial legislation (or lack thereof) that requires all American citizens to pay income taxes. Through revelatory interviews with key members of Congress, a former IRS Commissioner, tax attorneys, agents from the IRS and FBI, and various authors, Russo demystifies federal income tax and the creation of money.

Vanishing of the Bees

It’s a phenomenon with a name — Colony Collapse Disorder — but no explanation or solution exists. This documentary details the economic, political and ecological consequences of a dwindling world honeybee population. It also lends a personal perspective to the problem by tagging along with a pair of commercial beekeepers as they struggle to keep their bees hearty enough to fulfill their pollination contracts.

Honorable Mention: (Many celebrity based that influence our artistic expression but have a bit less affect on improving the world and our survival.)

Capturing the true story of the team that almost changed how America defined its national pastime, this documentary chronicles the rise of sports sensations the New York Cosmos, the crown jewel of the North American Soccer League in the 1970s. Backed by TV mogul Steve Ross, the phenomenal Cosmos boasted star players such as Pele and Franz Beckenbauer, whipping U.S. fans into a frenzy with their exploits on and off the field.

I saw this film at SxSW 2010 and it kicked ass. The crew spent a year traveling the world playing pickup soccer games and documenting the cultural impact. They put themselves in harms way several times to get into a game, for the love of it. They bribed their way into a prison game, the girl (Gwendolyn Oxenham) played in a Muslim game where women were not allowed and they almost got evicted from the country and had their tapes taken away; they even played as Jews vs. Muslims in Jerusalem.

After the film I hung out with the crew all night and shared our traveling soccer stories. We even discovered that we had met in passing when Gwen’s UNC team played my girlfriends Husker team.  I am absolutely delighted to see they made it into Netflix’s rotation.

*Two Americans who love soccer but didn’t make it in the pros travel to 25 different countries, where they find people of all backgrounds, races and classes who play the game for the sheer joy of it, regardless of their surroundings or equipment. A pelada, or pick-up game, is spontaneous, serious and fun, and anyone can join in. In exotic locales such as Bolivia, Kenya and Iran, the filmmakers celebrate the camaraderie generated by soccer.

The pioneers of hard rock take the stage — and blow your mind. Led Zeppelin storm Madison Square Garden in this collection of footage taken from their legendary performances at the New York venue in 1973. Adding to the musical power and drama are hallucinatory fantasy sequences meant to illustrate each band member’s mental state. Songs performed in this swirl of sound and vision include “Black Dog,” “Stairway to Heaven” and “Whole Lotta Love.”

Willie Nelson story directed by Billy Bob Thorton

Davis Guggenheim, creator of the Oscar-winning An Inconvenient Truth, directs this fascinating profile of three contemporary guitarists: Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, U2’s The Edge and Jack White of the White Stripes. Each talks about their creative process, technique and influences as cameras follow them to key locations in their own music history. A jam session featuring all three musicians is woven into their discussions.

This documentary peers into the controversial and often dangerous operations of the Al Jazeera news network, an outlet that’s become the most accepted informational resource in the Arab community — even though it often enrages its own people. Egyptian-American filmmaker Jehane Noujaim gains extraordinary access to Al Jazeera journalists and examines the risks they confront on a daily basis by simply doing their jobs.

Inspired by pioneering outdoorsman Yvon Chouinard’s freewheeling 1968 van trip to Patagonia, South America, a band of bliss-seeking surfer-mountaineers sets out — in 2007, by boat — to remake the journey in this adventure documentary. Jeff Johnson and his buddies hug the coast, stopping at the Galapagos Islands and Easter Island before arriving in Patagonia — a region that’s still breathtaking but is now besieged by environmental threats.

Increasingly, Big Coal is spelling big trouble for Appalachian communities whose members have worked the mines for generations. This documentary reveals why with its explanation of the effects of mountaintop-removal mining on the region. I’m customizing a Lenovo Twist s230u (8gRAM; 128gbSSD, 64gb SD; i7cpu) running Windows 7.

The link below shows my first few changes.

*I prefer using Chrome bookmarks to access my online sites instead of cluttering a bunch of apps so I did not install the Buttons and Docks used in the guide above. My daily sites are mostly eBay and Craigslist so I have added shortcut buttons for them on the desktop after taking the screen shot below but that’s about it.

Fences Desktop hider..stealth tool is a must have.

Get it here:

The auto rotate sensor is not supported in Windows 7 so I am looking for a one touch button that will control the screen orientation.

Until I find one, I have installed

and I created a shortcut to the display control panel to manually adjust orientation with two taps.

I changed my desktop wallpaper, system sounds, cursor and icons into Star Wars themes. I got the files from:

I use Dragon Speech engine to assign tasks to speech commands. I use this to open the shortcuts, open programs and type messages mostly. When I’m in chrome, I then use the google speech tool for browser tasks.

For those Phone Apps that you absolutely must have because they work better then the website for whatever reason…. Install BlueStacks and then you can use APPs within this program just like you were on your phone.

I will make a video soon to show smooth this setup works.

*There is no benefit in having an iPhone so we don’t bother reviewing their apps. Most of these are available on both platforms though.

Where’s My Droid – Text a phrase or call from a special number in case your phone is lost. It gives you a text reply with location and sounds an alarm.

File Manager – Why this is not included on most current android phones I will never understand.

Opera / Chrome Browser – Fixes most websites you are struggling to visit on your phone.

Note Everything – Access your biz files and write on your phone then upload.

Speak it – Telling your phone what you need is easy with the iPhone and this Android app is catching up to the Serie technology. Combine it with the SVoice function which is standard on most 2015 android phones to do voice commands.

Get Human – This app puts you in touch with the fast route around automated systems so you can actually talk to a human!

Fire Chat – This allows you to use your phone as a 2 way radio when you are out of signal in a deadzone.

TeslaLED – flashlight, strobe light, dance lights

Adobe Reader – book reading

WinAmp/iheartRadio/SoundCloud/TuneIn Radio – Stream your favorite music and radio stations or playback podcasts.

UNLOCK Modification Apps

APN Backup Restore

Active Root

Super SU

Root Checker

Triangle Away

Titanium Backup

S Manager

Root Explorer

Heytell and TalkBox – voice or video texting/chatting is more personal for your vips. Not to mention quicker. There are delayed deliveries some times due to connection strength of both parties but it is reliable for the most part. Some newer phones have an issue with the talk button releasing which gets annoying but still gets the job done eventually. A good substitute for apple Facetime.

Skype – For keeping in touch with your international friends and family.

Music Winamp – Get all your favorite radio programs in the morning all in one location. I go with Hart Attack (Hart Fisher), Howard, Alex Jones, BBC world, NPR, Hawaiian, Native American and finish with Comedy.

Shazam – Gives you the info of any song you have playing by identifying the music or lyrics.

Ringtone Maker – very easy to use

Pictures PhotoShop – Allows you to jazz up any photo by customizing the look and doing art overlays.

Video Cam Illusion- Great for customizing videos.

Go Sms Pro – Mimics the iPhone texting emoticons. Fully customizable backgrounds and fonts etc.

GoogleVoice – Place calls and texts via free wifi instead of using minutes. Tons of customizing for voicemail options. It is too complicated to use and I will not have much to say about it unless I turn off my data/sms plan and need a new solution.

AndroZip – Secure multiple files for sharing.

Lock – Lock your password files in case your phone is ever lost.

QR Coder – Make a quick Q code to share with people who have a smart phone. I do this instead of handing out cards to help save the trees.

Metals Spot tracker – Watch your silver and gold values so you know when to buy and sell.

Google Docs – Access work files with Note everything by storing them on G docs for access.

Shop Savvy Bar Code Scanner – Use this to find lowest prices near you or just basic info about anything with a bar code.

UPGRADE INFO,3269.html

The latest smart phones can work more efficiently if they are unlocked and rooted to remove bloatware/software.

Every phone has it’s own pros and cons. For my example in this blog, I am using the new Galaxy S4 Active i537 (only made for ATT firmware kernel) w/ JellyBean V4.2.2  unlocked for a TMobile SIMM

*I DO NOT RECOMMEND using the ATT s4 active i537 on NON ATT unlocked networks because it is a lot of work…. You have to install the new networks ROM to get a good signal and standard features like wifi calling and tethering. Even after installing the right rom, you may still have to reprogram receiver signals. I have yet to find a TMobi ROM that works and fixes the following problems!!!

1.) I want to install the WIFI Calling app feature from TMobile (the apk found here DOES NOT work. It reports “wifi calling has stopped” errors. Advice?

2.) When I try to turn on My tethering option… it gives me “mobile data not available or invalid SIM errors”? I have tried to turn it on when I get a 4g signal BUT it still says same thing.

3.) My signal is crap while roaming. How can I improve the signal? I have checked the APN and it is using It is reported that only updating the firmware will fix this problem. By updating the firmware I trigger knox, I lose the ability to control my SD card files and who knows what other problems I would be inviting…. I added TMobi HSPA bands but then my roaming data completely stopped and I have yet to reverse whatever caused me to lose my roaming data.

*I AM CURRENTLY researching how to use SAFESTRAP, ROM ToolBox, and how to install the T-Mobile ROM which is said to fix all of the above mentioned problems!!!

THE FREE UNLOCK ANSWER: Go to and complete an offer you pay be planning on doing anyway. I chose a basic $9.99 deposit to TrialPay Games. Then make a youtube video like I have here: and you will get $10 back!!! My code came in over night and after a few clarifications on their support FAQ, I got the ATT s4 Active unlocked successfully and am using it on TMobile now! They never gave me my $10 back because they wanted my YouTube video sound to be better then I had time to edit it but the unlock service still worked fine and was worth $10. I researched for a month on the best methods to unlock my SAMSUNG Galaxy S4 Active from ATT in order to use it on TMobile or any SIM card I choose at any moment. The government is trying to make it harder for people who use untraceable phones for malice by passing laws which also prevent common citizens from basic phone freedoms. Unfortunately this now forces everyone to pay manufacturer’s and service providers for unlock codes or database access. The newest phones are being loaded with operating system versions that prevent users from simply accessing the developer control module in order to unlock. Older phones are easily unlocked through accessing the devloper module via the dialer keypad.

View tons of guides on this method by doing a simple search on

The DEV control panel is factory locked on most new models. To unlock it, you go to SETTING>MORE and then simply tap DEV OPTIONS six times and then it become accessible!  If everyone stops supporting this trend, the laws will change and all devices will once again be released in unlocked mode. In order to do this I am publishing this blog all over the net and hope you will share it on your social media.

ROOTING the latest Galaxy S4 Active: Why ROOT an unlocked ATT Galaxy S4 Active? Increasing your battery life by minimizing the hidden CPU use of the OEM jellybean kernel is the main reason to root the new S4. FOR ME, I don’t like using the fancy features that drain my battery so it’s not worth the effort to root as of yet. I have not tested my data transfer rates in a TMobile zone while traveling in the midwest as of yet and there is a good chance I may be rooting later on in order to harness both ATT and TMobile towers for maximum transfer speeds but not as of right now. Other then tower data signals being uncooperative,  I discovered a big reason to ROOT…… MY tethering hotspot feature reports and invalid simm due to ATT/Tmobile crossing so I recently rooted using the following method….. But for others…. let me know your reasons for rooting please?

1. Enable “Unknown sources” on the phone to allow installation of apps from sources other than the Play Store by navigating to Settings >> Security.
2. The activeroot file works only on Samsung Galaxy S4 Active (AT&T) SGH-I537. Verify the model number of the Galaxy S4 Active by navigating to Settings >> About Phone.

Steps to Root Galaxy S4 Active (AT&T) SGH-I537 Running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Firmware
Step 1: Download the activeroot file (ar.apk) directly from your device.
Step 2: Run the ar.apk file on your device. It should give you a message telling you that you have root.
Step 3: Visit the Google Play Store and install SuperSU.

NoteYou MUST download and use SuperSU to manage superuser permissions, nothing else. Only SuperSU currently can circumvent Samsung’s “root blocker” in the kernel.

Step 4: Once the installation process is completed, open the SuperSU app and update binaries.
Step 5 (optional): Donate. Credit goes to geohot for his great work.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active (AT&T) SGH-I537 running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware is now rooted successfully. You can now install any app that requires root permission. Verify the root status of the device by downloading Root Checker app from Google Play Store.

Note: Many Samsung devices store a flash counter that keeps track of how many times you have flashed custom firmwares to your device. Triangle Away can be used to reset the flash counter to zero.

Thank’s to all fellas at XDA who first tried out this rooting technique. This method was originally posted via XDA-Developers original thread.

*NOW that your phone is unlocked and unrooted you need to remove problem causers like the knox file and ATT updates.

HOW TO REMOVE ATT UPDATE Use a root enabled file explorer (Like Root Explorer) and navigate to: /system/app/

Rename or delete wssyncmldm.apk

If you want to get rid of AT&T’s nannying nagging message about root access delete or rename KNOXAgent.apk  (only on JB 4.3+)

Install App Quarantine, go into settings and uncheck Hide system apps and disable AT&T Updater   HOW To REMOVE KNOX App Knox was not included until 4.3 and higher updates!

*Now that you have the threats removed, you want to replace the inefficiency. You want to install Greenify to maximize battery use (GooglePlay Free);  SuperSu (gives you developer control over all apps) ; RootExplorer (APK torrent download/install. Instructions below); Titanium Backup (safely create a backup so if you mess up, a default restore can be performed)

UPDATE SuperSu Binaries? *I’m waiting for help on what this means exactly because if we just installed it than it should already be updated but I see several threads talking about doing this for some unknown reason. NOT sure yet IF I should move this to “SYSTEM APPs”?

HOW TO CHANGE ATT Boot AUDIO and VIDEO ANIMATION Convert any audio file to an ogg file. I prefer WinAmp because it does pretty much everything. Download RootExplorer from a torrent location or pay $4 on GooglePlay Load the APK file into an easy to find location on your phone and then open it from your phone. With RootExplorer open go to: system/media/audio/ui AND rename PowerOn.ogg to something like PowerOn1 No rename your new audio file “PowerOn” and move it into the ui directory. *the original file is 75k and 2 seconds so keep your new file close to the same.   The ATT animation file is located: system/media/ bootsamsung.qmg & bootsamsungloop.qmg & shutdown.qmg GET the Non ATT Samsung animation files from here:

FIXING TETHERING “mobile network not available or invalid SIMM” ERROR *FIRST make sure you are not roaming? IF you are, turn on DATA ROAMING!!! *Still looking for 4.0+ Solutions? -You can try the easy route and swap the TetheringProvision file with one found here:

This is not working for me so far… but I am not in my Tmobile zone and I am searching for a strong data roaming signal to test if this is the issue!   -You can waste time getting complicated and Quarantine ‘TetheringProvision’ to disable the software lock on hotspot then Use ES File Explorer to configure and turn on the hotspot as read here: -You can pay for FoxFi service without rooting   (on JBean pre 4.0 ONLY… Post 4.0 JB does not allow 3rd party APN programs) -Download “apn backup and restore” Install it

-Open titanium backup and set it as a system app.

-Open apn b&r and click ok on the ics error check. Then hit menu and disable ics check. Then hit the back button [not home but back] Now open apn b&r and backup all your apns. Now go to your apn settings and copy on a piece of paper your apn settings. Now re open apn b&r and delete all apns. [Not your backup] Now go back to your apn settings and re enter your tmobile apn.

1. Disable Wi-Fi, mobile data, GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, etc. if you are not using.

2. Turn the Power Saving Mode on.

3. Adjust screen brightness to a low level, and reduce your screen timeout duration.

Improve the WIFI Connection

1) Settings => Connections and tap Wi-Fi. Then tap Menu; advanced; and make sure Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep is set to Always.

2) Or turn off Wi-Fi power save mode on your S4. Type *#0011# on the phone dialer, thenMenu => Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi power save mode to Off. (CHECK AFTER EVERY RESET OR POWER UP because this will reset to default ON)

3) Or change your router settings to 802.11 model

IMPROVE Tower Signal Strength

You can add the TMobile 4G HSPA spectrum in addition to the standard 1900 Spectrum already set up on the ATT S4 Active by following here:

*You can change the frequencies being received by dialing *#*#4636#*#* * You can try changing to a Cingular APN:     But also consider that TMobile has began adding 1900/freq towers as reported here:

1. Settings => More => Application Manager => All => Tap Apps One by One => Disable

2. Settings => My Device => Lock Screen, then tap Unlock Effect and change it to None

3. If the home button lags, you have to double press the Home Button to launch S Voice, then press the Menu key and choose Settings to uncheck Open Via the Home Key.

Hold down the MIC button on the Samsung keyboard to open the pop up keyboard option which allows you to relocate and shrink the size by 15% or Invisible Keyboard – costs $3 but it is the only keyboard app I have found that allows you to decrease to 2 lines of keys in order to max your screen viewing.

Software is constantly changing. Problematic virus’ and bugs are always circling your daily computer actions through social networks. To prevent problems from attacking your computer you must have the right defensive tools in place and if you do encounter problems, you must have the right tools to treat them.

Here is my most current list with PC links provided. You will have to change the search if you want the MAC files. IF you find my work helpful, please donate a couple dollars to our Helping Hands Causes by PayPal paid to user id:

1.) Use google chrome for your browser with the free “adblocker” plugin

This will remove 99% of the ads the common internet browser encounters

2.) Peer Blocker

This program protects your privacy from internet service provider employees snooping at your browsing activity. It runs algorithms that bounce your IP addresses around to make them harder to track. There are some bugs so you may need to install the previous program by the same group called Peer Guardian. The Net Neutrality Movement is fighting for your right to share digital content that is either public property or you have rights to. A large portion of people involved in the digital content industry would prefer to find a way to control these transfers but until the answer is implemented, most of them are trying to crush everyone fighting for the rights of the people. 3.) BitTorrent;1

A lot of the tools you need can be found with the help of fellow computer geeks sharing them through networks as torrent files for quicker user to user (peer to peer) transferring.

BitTorrent is my favorite program to use for this. Once you install the program you then put what ever you are looking for into a search engine like and add the word “torrent” at the end. I recommend looking for sources within portal.

4.) SpyBot Search & Destroy;1

IF you are experiencing any activity out of the usual or error alerts, chances are that you somehow clicked on something bad. Use this program to help find the problems and remove them.

5.) Windows Washer[CRACKED][DemonoidFan]

You may encounter error messages mentioning “cache” or memory problems. A lot of us forget to clear browser cache or don’t have settings set to limit how much data remains in our temp files and such. It is also important to consider what passwords and auto-fill data you allow to remain on website forms. Even if you never let someone else use your computer and it is locked up in a safe when you are not around, it is still a good idea to not store delicate passwords. This program will make sure all of these problems are taken care of.

6.) AVG FREE Anti-Virus;1

I have never read of any complaints nor have I ever had any problems with this anti virus program. Don’t spend money on one that tries to charge you renewal fees every few months.

7.) WinZip[ChingLiu]

Use this program to secure any private files by locking them with a password.

8.) VLC Media Player;2

Sometimes you will find files that do not play in Windows Media player or their audio is set very low. This program usually fixes these files.

9.) File Shredder

Use this program when you want to make sure a private file is completely gone before handing over a hard drive or entire computer to some one you don’t trust etc.

10.) Drive Defragmentor

Search under Admin Tools options

Schedule this System task to run every week to keep your drive in peek condition

11.) Tweet Deck;1

This program allows you to keep tabs on the latest news events using twitter just like you would use a stock ticker to follow our bogus economy stock market and fake federal reserve financial system.

12.)PDA Net

In case you do not use TMobile which allows free tethering and hot spot hosting, this program allows you to use your phone to push data through your computer with only a yearly $15 renewal donation. Hope you did not foolishly let your old unlimited data plan slip away with your last phone upgrade and contract renewal?

PROBLEM: Wireless Config Not working due to Microsoft Zero

This behavior occurs for several reasons. Some computer and hardware manufacturers provide their own configuration software that replaces the Wireless Zero Configuration service that is provided in Windows. In that case, you must use the software that is provided by the manufacturer to configure your wireless network. If you want to use the Wireless Network Setup Wizard or the View Available Wireless Networks feature to configure your wireless device, see the documentation that came with your computer or with your wireless network card. Use this documentation to determine whether you can use the Wireless Zero Configuration service to configure your wireless network. Sometimes, you cannot use the Windows functionality.

If your computer or your wireless network adapter did not come with its own wireless network software, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type ncpa.cpl, and then click OK.
Click Network Connections.
In Network Connections, click to select your wireless connection, and then click Change settings of this connection.
On the Wireless Networks tab, click to select the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings check box.

To start the Wireless Zero Configuration service, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s, and then click OK.
Double-click Wireless Zero Configuration.
In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.
In the Service status area, click Start, and then click OK.

Check to see if your problem qualifies for a free recall repair! The most common one of RAM’s are the related to front suspension vibration.

PROBLEM:  ABS trouble light always on.

DETAILS: my van has no fuse wiring contacts in the #5 ABS fuse slot. I do NOT have access to a manual to check if I have 4w ABS but by inspecting the front wheels and seeing NO SIGN OF WIRING I am certain I have only rear wheel ABS.

SOLUTION: 1.) Forum chat says that bleeding the brakes has succeeded in removing the trouble light. 2.) if trouble light remains on after bleeding, then try replacing relay; then try replacing the sensor on the rear differential. Some say there is no ABS relay on the mid 90’s Ram Van’s but the part stores list ABS relays in their parts options. There is talk that the brake lines above the fuel tank are connected with rubber hoses that crimp or deteriorate and leak. If bleeding turns the dash lights off temporarily then they come back, it is likely the hoses have a leak.

*currently researching manuals to find out if the ABS fuse was an UPGRADE/OPTION on the 1995 Dodge Ram Van Mark 250. If you know more about this please msg me or comment on this post.

The RWAL (rear wheel anti-lock) brake systems use fuse 12 for their power. There will not be a fuse in position 5, that is reserved for 4 wheel ABS systems. My Brake lights didn’t come on in the dash. My RWAL brake module was unplugged. So I plugged in the module and got my lights to come on in the dash. I found the connector from the parking brake switch was disconnected. More coming as I get it tested…

PROBLEM: my front right brake locks up after about 30 minutes of highway driving. Sometimes it randomly does it while driving around town.

DETAILS: This may be caused by a wheel hub bearing going bad and shaking the wheel causing the brake to rub. This also may be related to the issue above. I have no ABS fuse contacts in my fuse box. I have an unknown electrical issue with the fuel pump relay. All of these may be affected by a confused Central Computer Control Unit / Electronic Control Module. (C CCU / ECU)

SOLUTION: 1.) check wheel hub bearing 2.) replace relay? 3.) replace ABS sensor

*currently researching manuals to find out if the ABS fuse was an UPGRADE/OPTION on the 1995 Dodge Ram Van Mark 250. If you know more about this please msg me or comment on this post.

PROBLEM: When the weather temp is near 45f or lower, my fuel pump relay is not working properly?

DETAILS: I engage the starter and force the fuel pressure to rise for 5 seconds. I then leave the ignition on but do not engage the starter. Depending on the surrounding temp, the fuel pump relay will take several minutes before it starts making a ticking sound and the check engine light flickers for another 1-5 minutes. Once the ticking and check engine light stops flickering, I engage the starter and the fuel pressure is high enough that the engine turns over but very roughly. I gently press the pedal to keep the fuel pressure up until the engine idle balances out. When it is below freezing the relay doesn’t ever start ticking without a heat blower placed on it.

SOLUTION: This is an ongoing problem. Checked and cleaning all electrical contacts. Found a blown 15amp fuse under the dash near the steering column in a blue fuse holder. (there are 2 of them; a 20amp and a 15amp) I replaced the 15amp with a 40amp to prevent it from blowing hopefully.

I unplugged the battery and computer; turned the key to drain any reserve power; waited 2 hours and put everything back together. Problem still remains!

I took the connectors off the starter and brushed the carbon corrosion clean and put it back together. (The carbon makes it so you will likely snap the bolts and have to drill them out and replace so be prepared for a 4 hour ordeal.)

I also hooked up my truck with jumper cables to give the battery extra amps to make sure the cranking power on the van’s battery is not the issue.

I am now tracing the wiring back to the fuel pump and thinking of dropping the tank to check the connections on the pump. I replaced the pump 30,000 miles back so it should still be good.

Any other ideas?

Now it is 30 degrees out and I can not get the pump relay and circuits to activate the pump even with blowing a hair dryer on the relays. AND I really need to get it going to park it in storage. Next spring I think I will waste the $90 to have the PCM sent in for testing so I can eliminate it from the scenario.

I am about to pull my tow package off and sell the van for parts. I got $425 in new rubber, new upper gaskets and tuned valves, newer fuel pump, new plugs/wires/distributor, new timing sensor, new filters, new radiator, new water pump and new brake pads and I’ll be lucky if I can get $750 for it if I don’t solve this starting problem.

I am nearly certain that the problem is caused by a glitch in the ECU/PCM. Follow the forum on this topic at:

Compression Checker

Problem: Radiator Hose broke. Engine over heated. Likely broke/warped/cracked the head/s and/or gasket.

Solutions: AFTER replacing the radiator hose, testing the water pump, replacing the thermostat…. the engine still over heats after a short while… Identify the problem by checking oil for signs of radiator coolant. If the gasket and/or head is cracked, the wall between the oil system and cooling system is being penetrated and one or the other or both will be mixed together. IF the fluids are mixed proceed to solution #1 Compression Test.

You will read about how “oil in coolant” vs. “coolant in your oil” is very important to clarify. One means possible BLOCK damage and total replacement vs. ONLY head damage and replacement. Big cost and time difference. I’m still not sure how can you tell and looking for a better answer to post here?

#1 Test the CYLINDER HEAD VALVES for compression loss/cracks and THEN replace if needed.

STEP 1: Remove Spark Plugs and thread compression tester into cylinder 1

STEP 2: disable the ignition by unplugging the distributor power from the battery

STEP 3: disable the fuel injectors by putting the throttle pedal down and pull the fuel pump fuse/relay. Listen to make sure the pump is not powering up when the key is turned.

STEP 4: crank starter 5+ times to reach max compression rating.

STEP 5: Un-thread tester and drop oil on valve and thread back in and re-test. Note down each reading. Should be a +20-40psi range.

STEP 6: Do this for all cylinders and compare readings. IF there is a cylinder losing compression move on to STEP #7. If you have mixed fluids there is definitely a compression loss.

STEP 7: Connect air compressor straight to the cylinder and listen for air loss. IF there is air coming out of the side of the head, you have a crack OR if air is coming out of the connecting gasket area, move on to SOLUTION #2. IF leaking is heard in Oil Cap there are broken rings, if heard in tail pipe or throttle plate manifold the bottom of engine is damaged and needs to be pulled out of the vehicle.

Cracks & Physical Damage

Generally, cracks are limited to the combustion chamber, however, it is not uncommon for the head to crack in a spark plug hole, port, outside of the head or in the valve spring/rocker arm area. The first area to inspect is always the hottest: the exhaust seat/port area.

A visual inspection should be performed, but just because you don’t see a crack does not mean it is not there. Some more reliable methods for inspecting for cracks include Magnaflux®, a magnetic process or Zyglo®, a dye penetrant. Magnaflux® is used only on ferrous metal (cast iron) heads. Zyglo® uses a spray on fluorescent mixture along with a black light to reveal the cracks. It is strongly recommended to have your cylinder head checked professionally for cracks, especially if the engine was known to have overheated and/or leaked or consumed coolant. Contact a local shop for availability and pricing of these services. TESTING should cost <$15 each.

AFTER identifying if there is a compression loss OR if your gaskets were just blown out you can begin the proper repairs.

#2 Replace head gaskets with MULTI LAYERED STEEL gasket (MLS). IF all cylinders fail compression test, then check the cylinder head/s for plum by laying it on a glass window. IF it is warped, you can sand it or have it refaced for $100/ea. on average. IF head is severely damaged, get a NEW replacement head for $250/ea. on average. Don’t waste time with refurbed $175 heads. The casting is thinner and has already been weakened.

IF you need to replace the heads, you will want to buy a head with valves pre installed. IF for some reason you need to remove and re-install the valves and springs… see my NOTES blog for further detailed instructions.

To install complete header with valves:

– Refer to cylinder head cleaning and inspecting before installing.

– Position the new cylinder head gasket(s) on the engine block.
– Place the cylinder head(s) onto the gasket(s) and engine block.
– Tighten, in sequence, all the head bolts to 50 ft. lbs. (68 Nm). Repeat procedure, tightening the bolts in sequence to 105 ft. lbs. (143 Nm).
– Install the pushrods and rocker arm shafts or rockers and pivots in their correct positions. Tighten rocker shafts (if equipped) to 200 inch lbs. (23 Nm). Tighten rocker arms (if equipped) to 21 ft lbs. (28 Nm).
  1. Rotate the engine until the “V” mark lines up with the TDC mark on the timing chain cover. This mark is located at 147° from the No. 1 firing position.
  2. Install the rocker arm and pivot on the correct cylinder.
  3. Tighten each rocker arm retaining bolt to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm)4. You may need to rotate the engine to make additional adjustments for any excessive slack/play in rocker. You want up and down play for lifter clearance but not side to side slack.
– Install air intake, injectors (if removed for testing) and throttle body.
– Install the intake manifold.
– Install the valve covers.

To install Valve Covers:

– Clean all gasket mating surfaces thoroughly.

– Lubricate all bolt and stud threads prior to installation.

– Install a new valve cover gasket on the cylinder head and align the fastener holes.

– Install the valve cover on the cylinder head.

Although the manufacturer does not specify a torque sequence, it is recommended that you start from the center and work your way outward, alternating sides of the valve cover. Remember to tighten evenly to prevent valve cover distortion.

– Install the retaining bolts and studs, and tighten to 95 inch lbs. (11 Nm).

– Install the ignition wire separators on the valve cover retaining studs.

– To install the driver’s side valve cover:

– Install the oil fill tube back into the valve cover.

Compression Checker

Before disassembling the cylinder head, you may want to fabricate some containers to hold the various parts, as some of them can be quite small (such as keepers) and easily lost. Also keeping yourself and the components organized will aid in assembly and reduce confusion. Where possible, try to maintain a components original location; this is especially important if there is not going to be any machine work performed on the components.

  1. If you haven’t already removed the rocker arms and/or shafts, do so now.
  2. Position the head so that the springs are easily accessed.

  1. If equipped, remove the valve seal. If the seal is difficult to remove with the valve in place, try removing the valve first, then the seal. Follow the steps below for valve removal.

  1. Position the head to allow access for withdrawing the valve.

Cylinder heads that have seen a lot of miles and/or abuse may have mushroomed the valve lock grove and/or tip, causing difficulty in removal of the valve. If this has happened, use a metal file to carefully remove the high spots around the lock grooves and/or tip. Only file it enough to allow removal.

  1. Remove the valve from the cylinder head.
  2. If equipped, remove the valve spring shim. A small magnetic tool or screwdriver will aid in removal.
  3. Repeat Steps 3 though 9 until all of the valves have been removed.
IF valves/springs were removed do the following to re-install…
  1. Lightly lubricate the valve stems and insert all of the valves into the cylinder head. If possible, maintain their original locations.
  2. If equipped, install any valve spring shims which were removed.
  3. If equipped, install the new valve seals, keeping the following in mind:
    • If the valve seal presses over the guide, lightly lubricate the outer guide surfaces.
    • If the seal is an O-ring type, it is installed just after compressing the spring but before the valve locks.
  4. Place the valve spring and retainer over the stem.
  5. Position the spring compressor tool and compress the spring.
  6. Assemble the valve locks to the stem.
  7. Relieve the spring pressure slowly and insure that neither valve lock becomes dislodged by the retainer.
  8. Remove the spring compressor tool.
  9. Repeat Steps 2 through 8 until all of the springs have been installed.
