Solar Energy Tour Includes Stop at Creighton University

Omaha – The Nebraska Solar Energy Society will host a Nebraska solar tour in conjunction with the National Solar Tour, sponsored by the American Solar Energy Society, on Saturday, October 2nd.

The Omaha tour will take place from 1–4 PM, with the bus tour starting at the new Mammal Hall, South University of Nebraska at Omaha campus, 6708 Pine Street. The new Mammal Hall is the site of the Green Home Tour with the Green Omaha Coalition, with events starting at 830 AM at Mammal Hall. The Nebraska Solar Energy Society will have a display booth set up at the Green Expo, part of the Green Home Tour’s day of festivities.

The sign up for the bus tour will occur through the morning at Mammal Hall, with a first come first serve basis for seating on the bus for the solar tour, starting at 1 PM. The bus and tour is free and open to the public, with approximate home tour times listed on the NSES website: www.Nebraskasolartour.org <http://www.Nebraskasolartour.org>

On the Omaha tour, sites for the tour include two homes with solar energy design features, and the new installation at Creighton University. The two homes will be first on the tour, with a special talk given by Dr. Michael Cherney, who facilitated the funding and design of the 1.4 million dollar renewable energy installation across three sites on the Creighton University Campus.

A brief talk on the program at Creighton will be given by Dr. Cherney at the Hixson-Lied Center, room 59-G, main level.

The tour allows the public to see energy efficient building designs and energy generation firsthand, and to meet owners to ask questions about their home, see the Creighton University’s renewable energy installations and learn about the new energy technology program, beginning in the fall of 2011. More information on the tour is available at http://www.nebraskasolartour.org <http://www.nebraskasolartour.org> , and on the national ASES website, www.ASES.org <http://www.ASES.org> You may also call Rita Corell for more information: 402-551-5275.
