Legal Notes

Posted: March 25, 2017 in CAUSES, Secrets, TRUTH / Occupy

Everyone at one time or another has a run in with “the law”.

*DISCLAIMER: We are not certified or accredited with any formal legal training and are not liable for anyone’s action which may or may not be cited in connection with this blog.

We were recently educated by legal representation during the abusive legal procedures being conducted against clean water/energy activists. As we continue to evolve, links and other notes will be added below.

Most situations begin with a minor invasion of privacy resulting in a request to relocate your presence.

Be prepared and have your legality papers in hand before placing yourself at risk. When entering questionable scenario’s begin documenting, filming, recording and or have witnesses.

IF you are served legal notice of violating a law and given the choice to rectify then do so. Regroup and make sure your case defense is solid with the filed violations.

IF you are requested to be searched and possibly seized or arrested, inform witnesses to film and repeatedly inform the officers that you DENY their request. Repeat that you do NOT give search permission and that they have less than 30 minutes to release you without a warrant.

IF a search assistant (such as a Canine or digital meter device) is used speak loudly to the camera that you do not give permission for them to be used. IF the officers continue, they can say any far fetched sign from the assistants has given them probable cause to continue a detailed search.

IF the violations by the peace officers continue and you are cited, fined or arrested, you will now need to know all about jurisdiction and the Abatement of Common Law.

The best guide to proceed in such a legal battle can be found here:

Problem: Grinding in wheel gears.

Cause: Torn boots, dry axle gears, bad bearing.

Solution: Check all lubrication. Jack up wheels and hand turn them and listen or feel for problems. IN MY CASE, the grinding only starts in the rear passenger side after driving at least 40 mph for 20 miles consecutively. I am still testing to identify the exact cause and solution.

Problem: Broken Accelerator pedal

Cause: Damaged AC condensation drain tube allowing water to settle at the pedal base plate which then rots the floor out.

Pedal damageAC drain foam

Solution:  Replace the damaged foam AC drain tube with a rubber and duct tape tube. Then weld a new pedal connector in place with seam sealant, rust inhibiting paint spray and rubber coating. Also spray the bottom of the car. I riveted my pedal plate in place because I didn’t make the plate large enough to weld to solid floor metal.

Problem: RUST! ARE YOU IN AN ICY CLIMATE? If you are in 80% of the USA your vehicle is at risk. Some of the main places and parts to keep protected include the fender well cover along the floor support & the independent suspension. A hole will rust out in the fender along the frame support and moisture will get into the lower frame and find it’s way down on to the suspension parts.

Mercedes Shock RustRear PAssenger Quarter

Solutions: Re-coat your fender wells with truck liner as needed. IF it is too late you will find that the rear shock mounts sit in a bowl made to support the spring and that will rust out. To get that replaced is a major job as the spring support and the wheel base and axle are ALL attached to this suspension arm and they will need to be removed. The main suspension arm will likely be rusted and you will have to cut off the bolt head and cut out the support tube away from the rubber bushing because it is usually rusted to the bolt.

Suspension Bolt Grinding Suspension Bolt

REMOVE your suspension arm bolts right now and go grease them if it is not too late!!! Make sure you jack the arm up and keep it in place while removing the bolt because if you let it tweek out of place it is a pain in the ass to get the freshly greased bolt to start threading.

Problem: Floor Board and trunk rust rot (usually due to failing door/trunk seals)

Solutions: Replace or repair seals. Treat them often with rubber conditioner.

Door Seal b4Door Seals

Problem: Window switch is not working. The rear window switch on the rear door works but not the front control switch. (The switches get goo in them over time and the contacts arc and burn out.)

Solutions: Disassemble the switch and clean the contacts and other parts with a razor blade and rotate them before reassembling.

Switch Cleaning 1 Switch Cleaning

Problem: Transmission or drive shaft allows the vehicle to role about 2 inches when put into park.

Solutions: The main issue is likely that the bushing between the two pieces of the axle is getting worn out. This is very common and is not known to brake completely so there is little risk of being stranded. The drive shaft joint fingers also are very flexible and the give increases with ware.

Problem: Transmission shifts hard and horse power seams weak.

Solutions: *LATE ’84 or newer models have a unique shifting vacuum pressure line out of the banjo bolt found on the drivers side of the valve cover. Test by removing the vacuum filter line for the shifting and bypass it by plugging it up. It shifts smoother and increased my horsepower because the extra shifting filter really is not necessary and decreases the pressure too much. This is also a way to test if your turbo is working by unplugging it while vehicle is running to see how much pressure is coming through the banjo.

Problem: Concerned how good my engine seals are and if they are causing too much blow by and oil leaking.

Solution: You can put your thumb over the vent hole on the top of the valve cover to get a good idea how healthy your ring seals are. The longer the engine continues to run, the better the seals. 3 seconds means run away from that engine while 6 seconds is average and 9 or more is like new! Mine is 7ish  🙂

Problem: Transmission shifts hard, then sometimes it stops and has no power and no acceleration?

Solutions:

1. Check the Tranny Levers/Valves and throttle linkage. http://dieselgiant.com/trannyleverreplace.htm

In my case, the throttle pivot bushing connecting the pedal arm to the accelerator linkage connected to the firewall was broke. (see pictures below)

This part is $54+ from PeachParts: http://tinyurl.com/7nwjhdf

$41+ from Car-Stuff.com : http://tinyurl.com/6wst7cc

A: 1984+ has a metal tranny valve  lever on top of the engine

B: <1983 has (2) plastic levers

2. Clean the Banjo-bolt and LINE located on back of engine, near transmission fluid dip stick at rear of exhaust manifold. (*Need cleaning agent and wire brush) Remove line from firewall switch-over valve.

A: 1984+

B: <1983

Switch-over valve line to banjo bolt cleaned? (if you by-pass the switch over, your engine can not prevent over fueling from over boost! This will ruin the engine by ______ ?

3. Clean Fuel and air system (filters, sea foam etc.)

4. check vacuum system (adjust tranny linkage) The 5 way connector by the throttle linkage on pre 1983’s or the 4 ways on 1984+ is usually swollen from oil vapors and heat.

http://dieselgiant.com/mercedesvacuumtroubleshooting.htm

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wlg7mZffni8

Start at the ALDA with vacuum tester, and if the pressure is not making it that far, then you’ll need to investigate to figure out what is the source of the problem.  Make sure you’ve got the ALDA – there are also vacuum fittings connected to the vacuum shut-off valve on the injection pump,

You can modify the vacuum lines. Remove all lines to the head valve cover. The main vacuum supply goes to a single T as seen in the photo. One end of the T goes to the vacuum control valve (via the green dampener) and the remaining end goes off to the transmission. Note the restriction orifice remains in the line to the vacuum control valve.

One T is completely eliminated……..the line to the black box on top of the valve cover is eliminated. The vent line goes directly to the vacuum control valve. Second T is completely eliminated. The return vent line to the black box on top of the valve cover is eliminated. Remove the line from the black box to the temperature switch on the thermostat housing. Finally, the line from the temperature switch to the EGR valve is eliminated. Opened up the black box and pull out the remains of the 3-2 switches. The IP linkage works a bit smoother when you don’t need to force the cam.

*By removing the EGR vacuum lines connected to the Switchover (3/2) valves and temperature switch, you improve mileage and power but lose first gear and increase carbon blow back. (The 3/2 valves activate the transmission’s 1st gear).

5. check kickdown solenoid performance

Check that the kickdown solenoid isn’t stuck. A simple test you could do is turn the key on and have a helper press the go pedal to kickdown a couple times. You should be able to feel or hear the solenoid click. If it is stuck, pressing the pedal to kickdown quite a few times may free it up.

There is a button under the pedal connected to a cable to the solenoid in the rear of the transmission.

6. check/adjust throttle linkage

Adjustment Of Cable Control For Control Pressure. Vehicles with engine 617.95.

  1. Push off ball socket (19).
  2. Push ball socket (19) first to the rear (opposite to direction of arrow), then pull carefully forward (direction of arrow) until a slight resistance is felt.
  3. In this position, hold ball socket (19) above ball head ; drag lever (13) should rest against stop (14).
  4. Adjust control pressure cable control at adjusting screw (15) in such a manner that the ball socket (19) can be pushed free of tension on ball head.

Mercedes Benz 300D Shifting Problem

7. Check/Replace change-over valve.

The vacuum line from the rear of the intake manifold goes to the changeover valve which is operated by DC power.  From the changeover valve the line goes on the the ALDA. A new Changeover valve has returned the engine back to it original power at all speeds according to some. This is located next to the brake booster.

8. Adjust ENGINE valves (*Need 13mm torque wrench for header bolts, new Gasket maybe, MM feeler gauge, 27mm socket, 2 angled 17mm wrenches (tightner wrench needs to be skinny to fit on tightner nut under adjuster nut, baggies for parts, paper and marker to label parts and mark rocker arm as completed)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LzJsD6gc4E

http://youtube.com/jpiTfk6Z3n8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcsgyPGgaxg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkzz-8YJOp4

A. put 27mm socket on crank pulley to turn engine

B. loosen air breather tube from base but leave attached to head plate or you will break it and need to replace. Remove header bolts a turn each at a time to prevent header warping. Gently shimmy header loose to protect gasket and avoid replacing.

C. Crank engine with 27mm on pulley until valve #1 cam rocker arm is straight up. Loosen lock nut on bottom, move adjuster on top to desired spacing. Tighten lock nut.

D. set intake valves at .004 inch (drivers side), exhaust/out take valves to .012 inches (passenger side)

E. repeat for each valve and reconnect header with 2 or 3 torque clicks of pressure (aprox. 15lbs. of pressure?) and breather tube

9. adjust ALDA  (Automatische Lade Druck Anreicherung – Automatic load pressure enrichment) Adjusting may not do anything? 1/2 turn counter clockwise should result in light smoke from exhaust which signifies more fuel being processed by engine and increased power. BE CAREFULL, the screw is easy to break!

In a nut shell the ALDA unit sits on top of the fuel injection pump and contains 2 aneroid capsules and some internal linkage, that enriches the fuel deliver in response to altitude and intake manifold pressure.  When the turbo charger starts making boost the small banjo bolt  and accompanying plastic line, transmits this pressure signal to the switchover valve on the firewall.

http://dieselgiant.com/mercedesaldaboostsystemservi.htm

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyYAMpuqRwg&feature=related

IF YOU REMOVE the ALDA …. BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT FULL THROTTLE TAKE OFFS, don’t do them. It will run very rich under acceleration but OK under cruising, watch your temp. If you leave it off you’ll need a manifold boost gauge and pyrometer to avoid overheating pistons

10. EGR VALVE plugged or plated off with steel

Unplug the vacuum line going to the EGR valve (in front of the air cleaner)  IF there is a power increase service the EGR Valve. IF you leave it blocked, it is recommended to use Bio Diesel as much as possible to minimize exhaust carbon from breaking down the vacuum rubber components and causing build up on other parts.

11. Check the timing

Check the timing marks on the cam gear and tower with the crank pulley at TDC. IF off/retarded by more than 5 degrees replace the timing chain which brings the timing to 2.5 degrees retarded. Offset woodruff keys are available to further correct timing.

12. Replacing the injectors will improve starting, performance, and limit exhaust smoke. http://dieselgiant.com/mercedesinjectornozzlereplace.htm

13. Check Fuel Rack Damper Bolt

Replacing or adjusting fuel rack damper bolt improves idle and smoothes the engine shake.

Loosen the lock nut and screw the bolt in until the engine smooths out and then back it out and go in again, just to make sure it’s in the right place. Tighten lock nut.

You really only want it screwed in as far as you need to stop the wild side to side rocking. Once that stops, screwing it in further is not going to make it smoother. These engines shake and that’s all there is too it. If it’s screwed in too far it will mostly likely stall and be difficult to start.

Greetings,

This winter I began researching and comparing dental prices in the East Texas area. I had hoped to find out more about insurance options and figured that the clinics would be forced to push ObamaCare propaganda upon me, however, that has not been the case.

Here is what I have found so far.

Exam – $40 4 weeks delayed appointments

Canal – TBD after exam. Mine was $420 + $75 filling

emailed 1/25 (informed that all communication is only done in person)

1/26 – Visited and passed initial screening. Scheduled for March 3 xray exam for $40.

3/3 – Exam was well done with full explanations and exact pricing. Two month delay for next appointment but the savings are worth it. Cleanings are $40. Fillings are $25-60 depending on how many layers. They give referrals for reduced rate oral surgeries like removing wisdom teeth.

I was referred to oral surgeon, Dr. Parks. Their exam is $65 plus another $120 for Xrays even though you are already consulted and referred to them by an approved partner. The extraction will then cost up to $375.

Summer 2016 – I got 6 teeth filled.

August – my top wisdom tooth pressed my rear molar out and the pain was too intense to wait to remove the wisdom tooth so I had the molar pulled out.

September – scheduling to have my lower wisdom tooth extracted ASAP to prevent repeat pain.

CHAPTER 1: HELP it

CHAPTER 2:  SIMPLIFY it

CHAPTER 3: MAKE it

CHAPTER 4: STRETCH it

How’s to Use Technology Efficiently?

We are most often asked, “What TV/Internet/Phone SERVICE cost the lowest”?

Answer 1: The introductory rates for new customers transferring from a competitor are the best in most cases. This is followed by customer retention offers. These usually involve a bundling package with Phone, TV and internet all together.

IF you are in an area with multiple options, you want to call your current provider and tell them about their competitors offer and most of them are authorized to match the offer by switching you to the customer retention plan. IF not, then you switch your service and once the introductory rate expires, you go through the process again. IF you have three competing services available then you are able to continue the cycle by going in rotation. Some companies will not offer an introductory rate until you have been away for more then 365 days. With only 2 providers, you may need to go without service a day or 2 for the 1 year requirement to expire.

Each provider is constantly changing their “new subscriber plans” in order to steal business away form their competition. These deals are not as good circa 2014 as they were in the past because the government has allowed far too many large corporations to merge.  (click to view details)

In 2014, a merger between Comcast and TimeWarner is nearing approval  as well as a vote on the internet neutrality law. The neutrality law could allow Comcast full approval to regulate and censor the internet like it is in China!!!

We update the details of these offers in this chapter as they change.

Answer 2: Mobile Phone services are often not included with the other services. IF this is the case, you want to make sure you get the maximum amount of phone lines and bundle your plan together with friends you trust and split the bill. This saves you hundreds of dollars a month!

Answer 3: DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO TV service. Everything on TV is available through the internet.

You want to get a mid speed service and connect your computer to your TV. Between tv streaming services like wiziwig and full media control systems like XMBC.org, you will find everything you desire. There are a few exceptions with HD streaming and the occasional freeze frame, but don’t complain for saving over a $1000 a year.

Audiobook Sources
The non-commercial, nonprofit and ad-free project called LibriVox is on a mission to “make all books in the public domain available, for free, in audio format on the Internet.” They are fulfilling this dream by scouring the virtual stacks for public domain books, which are then read and recorded by a fleet of volunteers. If you love this and have a knack for reading, you can also volunteer to record books for the organization. See the nearly 6,000 titles available here.

A new language
Looking to learn French? Need to brush up on your Urdu, Czech or Icelandic? The ever-helpful Brits at the BBC World Service offer free online language lessons. They provide essential phrases in 40 different languages; and for Greek, Spanish, French, Chinese, Italian, German, and Portuguese, they give complete courses and phrases, audio and video, vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, activities and tests.

MOBILE PHONE OPTIONS

TracFone.com has 180 minutes; 180 texts; 180mb data for $21 (fees included) for 3 months. If you use more you can get 750mb for $20 and an additional 180 minutes approximately for an additional couple of dollars a month! Hopefully you are in a good coverage area for them. The average user can make do with this by using wifi apps as much as possible for additional voice calls and most of their data needs.

FREEBIES!

There are a lot of freebies out there. You just need to know where to look. The free listings under Craigslist are on my daily bookmarks and alerts.

Educate Yourself
7 places where you can get a free online education include honorable institutions as MIT, Harvard, Stanford and Yale.

Free eBooks
Project Gutenberg was founded in 1971 and is the oldest digital library. As of March 2012, it had more than 42,000 titles in its collection. Most of the items in the collection are the full texts of public domain books and they are all available to anyone for free. The most popular titles at the site are classics like Victor Hugo’s “Les Miserables” and “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde. Downloads are available in a number of formats, including Kindle, EPUB and Plucker; they can also be read directly online.

Free Road-trip Vehicle

Auto Driveaway matches drivers with cars that need to be delivered to another state. You pay a refundable deposit and the cost of gas, and drive someone else’s car to the location where they need it.

Free Food

Swap your garden goods at farmers markets with others to get those items you are tempted to go buy at a grocery store.

If you really want something that you struggle to grow yourself, consider a food bank. There are always food banks in churches or community centers every few miles. If you are in debt and making every effort to budget your expenses the best you can then these food banks are for you. Don’t be embarrassed to go ask for food. A bunch of the fresh food spoils and goes to waste at food banks because not enough people collect it. Think of it like you are saving food from going to waste.

You can save hundreds of dollars a month to put towards your debts. Show up an hour early or stay an hour late and volunteer so you feel better about it. Now take that extra money and put some towards expanding your garden and put even more towards your debts.

From time to time, you will discover that a bank itself, will perform a shady act of business with their account holders. It is not lawfully an act of theft but to you and I it sure is.

I try to tell everyone around me about the benefits of doing business with your local community credit union. They are there to prevent all the shady acts being done by the big corporate banks. The credit unions give you ownership shares and dividends on their earnings instead of trying to sneak them out of your accounts and passing them into public trading stock holders wallets. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL CREDIT UNION and GET YOUR MONEY OUT OF BIG BANKS PLEASE!!!

One example happened when Wells Fargo purchased Wachovia Bank. From 2008-2011, Wells Fargo changed account limit fees and interest rates on Wachovia customers to force them out of high interest yielding Wachovia accounts grandfathered to them as part of the merger deal. My very own FREE 5% savings account was affected. The account allowed a maximum deposit of $100 per month to earn 5%. The first move by Wells Fargo was to change the account numbers to match Wells Fargo’s “SYSTEM”. The second move was to then change the interest rate to .05% and start charging fees. They could now do this because the account # had been changed and the original Wachovia account no longer existed. The third move was to suspiciously have a security leak causing a fraud theft on the account. In order to recover the stolen funds, I had to formally close the account for good and transfer it to an account that cost me $4.95 a month just so I could get my credit back. This removed the last of any proof the account was still active in case of a future class action settlement against them. I lost hundreds of dollars in savings thanks to this action.

Another example is Capital One bank in 2013-2014. I had an account that cost $4.95/month if my average balance was below a certain amount. I never logged into it because I just used it for savings and an auto payment for a Capital One credit card. I had email alerts set for minimum balance and it never sent the emails. One day I got notice in the snail mail that the account has been charged off and another notice that my credit card payment was returned. I didn’t even get a notice for insufficient fund fees being charged to my account. When I logged in and looked at the history, my access to records only went back 12 months but all 12 months had been changed and my balances had been altered to reflect a $8.95 monthly fee deduction. Capital one had stolen at least $59.40 from me and I had no idea. Who in their right mind is paying $8.95 a month for checking account??? I then also had $35 overdraft over the limit fee and another $35 insufficient fund fee and then had to pay $121.35 to their collection agency. I also had auto deposits for my book sales going into the account which they applied towards the negative balance and kept from me.

It took me a month and half and two complaints on file with the FTC and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (consumerFinance.gov) to eventually get 12 months of $4.95/month over charges returned rounded up to $60.

HOME REMEDIES

We do not approve of spending money at stores on products we can make simply ourselves. This chapter is dedicated to all of the many solutions that surround you right now as you read this.

PEST CONTROL

Make a simple nat, fly, fruit no see-um catcher by simply cutting a bottle in half and turning the top upside down with some water and nectar or food substance below it. Flies are not good at finding their way back out of a bottle lid hole.

FOOD related

Garden, Garden & Garden some more!!!
Starting a garden is one of the smartest moves you can make at home. 90% of the food now found in a name brand market are full of chemicals and packaged with earth poisoning packaging. Even organic health food store’s can not tell you exactly what is in their food.

If you are starting a garden on a budget, see How to get free seeds for your first garden. Soil should be built up by adding compost and other nutrients during the dormant season. Find your local dairy farmer and go purchase directly from them after discussing their use of growth hormones and feed stock.

Fresh fruit
For a “pick your own” experience without paying for it at a farm (although we support that, too), there’s an app called Find Fruit. With an interactive database that includes the location of thousands of fruit trees on public land nationwide on a standard Google Map.

Keep rice wrapped in a paper towel, within your zip locked bags of produce to slow down aging.

Grow Kenaf in your house. It absorbs carbon dioxide faster per plant than any other plant/tree on the planet. It is edible and can be used for everything that hemp can be used for without concerned looks by visitors. (Even though growing non marijuana medicine budding hemp strains is completely legal anyway.)

Trees
The Arbor Day foundation is the largest nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees. For $10, you receive a six-month membership that includes a number of goodies, along with 10 free trees. You can mix and match which trees you want, or get a set, like the flowering tree package which includes two white flowering dogwoods, two flowering crabapples, two Washington hawthorns, two Eastern redbuds, and two golden rain trees. Visit the Arbor Day Foundation for the deal.

Soup stock
Keep a “scraps container” in the FREEZER and every time you have vegetable peels, onion skins, leek tops, herb stems, garlic ends and any other part of a vegetable that would otherwise go to waste, stick it in the container. When you have enough, sauté it all in olive oil in a deep pot for five minutes, add water, bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer for an hour and add salt and pepper. For other ideas to put your kitchen scraps to work, see 20 uses for leftover fruit and vegetable peels.

WHAT NATURAL TREATMENTS are available for Shingles?

Shingles is a reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus(VZV), also known as the chicken pox virus. Once a bout of chicken pox has passed, the virus remains dormant in nerves in the spinal cord.

As a result of compromised immunity due to increased stress levels, illness, older age, injury or immune-suppressing drugs, the residual virus can re-emerge and follow nerve pathways to the surface of the skin, where painful blisters with burning and itching occur.

Apple cider vinegar compresses prove to be a useful shingles treatment for many. Mix a 1:1 up to a 1:4 ratio of water to vinegar. Soak a smooth cotton cloth in the solution and apply to the blisters and pain-affected areas several times daily.

Zinc and vitamin E salve is another option. By combining OTC zinc ointment with a capsule or two of natural vitamin E (not synthetic DL-tocopherol) and a tablespoon of high quality aloe vera juice, this effective pain-relieving salve can be applied to the affected areas with good results.

Studies have shown regular use of capsaicin creams help with postherpetic neuralgia, the residual nerve pain many suffer from after a shingles outbreak clears up. These are readily available in health food stores and drug stores and can be purchased online.
There is a vast range of other proven and folk remedy options for shingles.

Acupuncture treatments, homeopathic remedies, flower essences, and essential oils. Herbs believed to be useful for the condition are licorice root (deglycyrrhized should be used), St. John’s wort, reishi mushroom, garlic, propolis, echinacea, passion flower, and lemon balm. Their effects range from anti-viral to immune modulating and from to anti-inflammatory to pain and anxiety reducing.
What else can be done?

While the above natural shingles treatments help millions, the real key to controlling shingles outbreaks lies within the immune system. Strengthening and modulation of a person’s immunity may prevent the reactivation of the virus, and thus prevent the painful episodes of blistering and nerve pain.

Below are some nutritionally-based options to consider:

Shingles is sometimes called herpes-zoster, highlighting its relation to other herpes-based viruses. Studies have shown that taking 1000 mg of l-lysine (an amino acid) three times per day has proven effective in interrupting the replication of the virus by competing with its need for the amino acid l-arginine. Therefore, it’s also important to avoid arginine rich foods such as nuts and seeds, chocolate, red wine, tea, coffee, beer, gelatin, and more. Maintaining a low-arginine diet for an extended period of time will support other anti-shingles efforts.

Proteolytic enzymes, which mean literally protein-digesting, have a proven history of effective anti-viral and anti-inflammatory usage. Cautions include not taking them with other blood-thinning medications and only using very high-quality products, often available only through natural health practitioners.

Vitamins A, B, C, D, and E all have long-standing overall health and immunity-enhancing benefits.

In anticipation of finishing my book in progress, which happens to be based on documenting the evolution of our Helping Hands Network (netvibes.com/HelpingHandsNet), I took a break and started a conversation with my camping neighbor about documentaries. My new friend Erin, was very passionate about The Cove and just deserving with the current Tsunami damage so close. Not to mention, she was of Japanese descent.

In our conversation I found myself thinking about recent conversations with another friend who works in a production studio focused on documentaries and within the coming hours I had begun writing this article to organize all the best doc films in a handy reference. I have also included a few films based on real people and events because of their amazing contributions to society mixed with a lack of existing “documentary film”. It has been a great break from my serious writing, but now it is time to get back to work. I hope you all enjoy the wonderful information I have compiled in the write up. Peace and love ~ tf

GASLAND

http://gaslandthemovie.com/

~70% of fracking chemical poisons are not biodegradeable and are left in the ground mixing with drinking water supplies.

~80,000lbs. of chemicals are used to first frack each gas well.

~200 millions gallons of water is used per year per natural gas well.

~100+ water hauling trailers are delivered per well per year.

~Loopholes in the 2005 energy bill relieve Gas companies from the EPA’s Clean Water Act regulation!!!!!!!!

“The largest domestic natural gas drilling boom in history has swept across the United States. The Halliburton-developed drilling technology of “fracking” or hydraulic fracturing has unlocked a “Saudia Arabia of natural gas” just beneath us. But is fracking safe? When filmmaker Josh Fox is asked to lease his land for drilling, he embarks on a cross-country odyssey uncovering a trail of secrets, lies and contamination. A recently drilled nearby Pennsylvania town reports that residents are able to light their drinking water on fire. This is just one of the many absurd and astonishing revelations of a new country called GASLAND. Part verite travelogue, part expose, part mystery, part bluegrass banjo meltdown, part showdown.”

GASLAND will be broadcast on HBO through 2012.

Read my comments on GasLand. TBoone Pickens had better come to the defense of the environment and make sure all these companies are drilling safely and respecting the water for the people living in the area. How many earth quake tremors do they need to endure before waking up!?

I am part owner of a natural gas fueling station in Northeast Nebraska ( NebraskaGreenFules.com ) and I am withholding out natural gas committment until these procedures are rectified and included under EPA regulations!!

An unsettling wake-up call to all Americans, this documentary dissects the country’s dependence on foreign pipelines, exposes rich oil companies’ devious dealings, and explores alternative fuels as a viable solution to our global energy crisis. Narrated by actor Peter Gallagher, the film includes interviews with government officials, scientific experts, academics and politicians from both sides of the aisle.

Starting in 2006, I have been volunteering with several renewable energy groups. I educated myself on making biodiesel, building wind turbines, and installation of several other related green products.

I drive a green van, fitted with a hydrogen generator and solar panel power station. I consulted and invested in the foundation of the Nebraska Green Fuels Cooperative with 10 Midwest leaders. (www.NebraskaGreenFuels.com)

I am a leading activist in the GREEN FUEL cause so this film is on my DVD pack that you get with any purchase from our Helping Hands Foundation eBay store!

Q: Why is the area that makes gasoline in Louisiana called “Cancer Alley?”
A: There are 150 petro-chemical facilities within 100 miles. The “fallout” (term from the EPA) from these facilities is a toxic cocktail of airborne chemicals that affects food, water and soil. Each refinery puts out hundreds of thousands of pounds of toxic chemicals. There are many studies showing links between these chemicals and the exceedingly high levels of cancer in Louisiana.

Q: What are the only three ways to dispose of the toxic waste produced by oil refineries?
A: Burn it, dump it on land, dump it in water.

Q: What is the difference in fuel economy between diesel and gasoline vehicles?
A: Diesel has better fuel economy by about 30%; avg. 24mpg for gasoline vehicles compared with avg. 45mpg for diesel.

Who Killed the Electric Car (Revenge of the Electric Car coming soon!!!)

http://www.whokilledtheelectriccar.com/

With my first book publishing pay check, I am going to go shopping for an electric vehicle. The #1 disappointment I have with my life is that I do not drive an electric vehicle charged by my solar power grid yet.

I ride my bike as much as I can but for daily driving with heavy load requirements, an electric vehicle and an efficient car pool schedule is the ultimate goal.

Currently in wide DVD release, Paine’s film investigates the events leading to the quiet destruction of thousands of new, radically efficient electric vehicles. Through interviews and narrative, the film paints a picture of an industrial culture whose aversion to change and reliance on oil may be deeper then its ability to embrace ready solutions.

OUT OF BALANCE

Documentarian Tom Jackson turns his lens on some inconvenient truths about energy titan Exxon Mobil and its effect on climate change. Spotlighting the company’s efforts to fund skewed media campaigns and support global-warming skeptics, Jackson builds his case in interviews with leading writers and scientists in the field of climatology. The film also explains the science behind global warming, as well as offering up some solutions to the crisis.

AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH
http://www.climatecrisis.net/an_inconvenient_truth/about_the_film.php

Some of the facts are not disputed fairly by the opposing data so it was destined to be rediculed. But the core facts regarding the increase in average world surface temperature and ocean temperature of our Earth are undisputable. Nearly all our worlds coral reefs are bleached clean from the combintion of sea life depletion and increased water temperatures.

From director Davis Guggenheim, An Inconvenient Truth is a passionate and inspirational look at former Vice President Al Gore’s fervent crusade to halt global warming’s deadly progress by exposing the myths and misconceptions that surround it. In this intimate portrait of Gore and his “traveling global warming show,” Gore comes across as never before in the media – funny, engaging, open and intent on alerting citizens to this “planetary emergency” before it’s too late.

Interspersed with the bracing facts and future predictions is the story of Gore’s personal journey: from an idealistic college student who first saw a massive environmental crisis looming; to a young Senator facing a harrowing family tragedy that altered his perspective; to the man who almost became President but instead returned to the most important cause of his life. With an emphasis on hope, An Inconvenient Truth ultimately shows us that global warming is no longer a political issue but rather, the biggest moral challenge facing our civilization today.

After having its U.S. debut at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and international premiere at Cannes, An Inconvenient Truth opened to rave reviews and enthusiastic audiences everywhere. A smash hit, the film went on to win Academy Awards® for Best Documentary feature and Best Song. It also became a global phenomenon, one of the highest grossing documentaries of all time with a worldwide audience estimated at 5 million people.

THE COVE

http://www.thecovemovie.com/

I practice the traditional ways of my ancestors for most of modern living needs. I mostly only eat what I can grow or obtain for myself. I try to use only hand made, natural, organic items in regards to materialistic industry. I focus on harnessing renewable energy as much as possible and I control the amount of needs by following minimal waste practices. I believe if someone wants to risk mercury poisoning by eating a dolphin or whale, then they should have to go hunt it for themselves and practice the ways of our native elders when it comes to using every piece responsibly. Using large nets to cowardly trap thousands of pounds of dolphins is not acceptable. And what about age selection? There should be a limit on size/age to allow for population balance.

Sometimes,  I just wish T-Rex was back in action to keep the human population in balance and remind us how to respect the species we hunt!

Mercury is the most toxic non-radioactive element in the world and it is released when coal is burned. There is no such thing as clean coal. Mercury falls to the ground and is distributed to streams, rivers and lakes and to the oceans where it is consumed by bacteria and becomes methyl-mercury, an organic form that is then easily absorbed by plankton and zooplankton. Mercury is an immortal element; there is no way to get rid of it once it is released in the environment. Once heavy metals and POP’s (persistent organic pollutants like PCB’s or pesticides) are digested they are very difficult to get rid of and they bio-accumulate in all organisms.

As a general rule, every step up on the food chain these toxins are found, they are magnified about 10 times. The result is that at the top of the food chain, apex ocean predators such as dolphins and swordfish have about a million times more pollutants in them than the water surrounding them. When you consume a pound of swordfish you are consuming the equivalent of a million pounds of floating plankton absorbing toxins. Mercury has a half-life in the human body of about 70-90 days but while it is in the human brain it is destroying neurons vital for sensory perception, memory and motor skills. Advanced stages of mercury poisoning in humans look remarkably similar to mental retardation, cerebral palsy or dementia in adults.

The Hemp Revolution

http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/Hemp-Revolution/60021090

There is just no logical reason why I can not grow hemp for food, industrial and homestead use. I would agree to a compromise and accept a regulated limit on female THC plants that produce smokeable herb buds but there should be no limit on non THC hemp growth!

As my contribution to legalizing Hemp, I have helped build the Shhmokewear.com business that focuses on hand made, smokeables.

Producer-director Anthony Clarke’s documentary explores the hemp plant’s fascinating history and thousands of uses, as well as the economic and cultural forces behind its prohibition. Clarke argues that the hype surrounding hemp, also known as cannabis or marijuana, has overshadowed the plant’s benefits as a source of paper pulp and its uses as a cotton substitute. He comes down hard on chemical and drug companies as well as the U.S. government.

COMMUNE

Communes are a great place to establish free thinking but many encounter leadership hurdles over time. Sometimes rule making and breaking gets carried away. Some communes have more focus on spiritual preaching and less on sustainable living.

I travel the world looking for the healthiest of communities which can be more appropriately titled as EcoVillages. I have written about those in my past and many more will be shared with my readers in my current book in progress.

In 1968, Elsa and Richard Marley founded an alternative-living community in the remote Northern California wilderness with the motto “Free Land for Free People.” This film tells the story of that intended utopia. Through archival footage and interviews with former residents, director Jonathan Berman explores the problems and realities of communal living and the evolution of a community that endured FBI harassment, cult leadership and more.

A New We

http://fic.ic.org/a-new-we.php

Inside look at the world’s EcoVillages. One of my life’s primary objectives is to live, review and contribute to EcoVillage life.  They are the ideal utopian society where commerce is replaced with barter and sharing.

Sustainable living practices are the focus, taking renewable energy and sharecrop farming to provide the freedom for our inner artistic souls to blossom!

The variety of situations and voices in A New We inspires hope for the future of humanity and all life on the planet. The lives shown here are more motivated by imagination, vision, respect and cooperation than by economic forces and social expectations. In these 10 communities, the creative solutions to many social, environmental and economic challenges exemplify the nearly infinite capacity for human-, community- and self-development.

It’s a film that enlightens, encourages and spreads hope – for a new world and A New We.

FOOD INC.

http://www.foodincmovie.com

I come from a long history or Midwest farmers and my family is one of the last surviving small farm owners in Nebraska. Most of the farm land has been purchased by one of the big corporations.

There are a lot of small farm homes left on the land but the crop fields are mostly farmed under contract on behalf of the corporations. Companies like Monsanto have secured politicians and new laws allowing genetic enhanced seeds to be required for most crops. This means that few 2nd generation seeds will germinate forcing the farmers to purchase new seeds every season!

Those of us who have survived this long, dodging home invasions and forced farm practices, are now being regulated by the latest S510 law. Less then 1% of the USA farmers will escape the newest regulations unscathed and the last of us will surely be forced to sell out or retreat to EcoVillages. My EcoVillages are protected by our rights to bear arms and we grow and trade our food amongst ourselves, all while respecting the borders of our s510 regulatory goones.

In Food, Inc., filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation’s food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that has been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government’s regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation’s food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, herbicide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won’t go bad, but we also have new strains of E. coli—the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults.

Featuring interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation), Michael Pollan (The Omnivore’s Dilemma, In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto) along with forward thinking social entrepreneurs like Stonyfield’s Gary Hirshberg and Polyface Farms’ Joel Salatin, Food, Inc. reveals surprising—and often shocking truths—about what we eat, how it’s produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here.

THE REAL DIRT ON FARMER JOHN
http://www.angelicorganics.com

A true fight for food freedom. John Peterson leads a CSA movement that crosses into the realm of an EcoVillage. A pinnacle role model for true wellness and healthy living in todays fucked up world. I plan to visit this CSA north of Rockford IL and volunteer there in 2012.

The epic tale of a maverick Midwestern farmer. An outcast in his community, Farmer John bravely stands amidst a failing economy, vicious rumors, and violence. By melding the traditions of family farming with the power of art and free expression, this powerful story of transformation and renewal heralds a resurrection of farming in America.

The film is a haunting odyssey, capturing what it means to be different in rural America.

Director Taggart Siegel Collective Eye made the film in a most unusual way – shooting farmer John Peterson over 25-years of their evolving friendship, and using multiple media, from 8 mm home movies shot on the farm in the 50’s and 60’s to modern video — allowing him to capture his alternately humorous, heartbreaking and spirited life with raw drama and intimacy.

With the death of his father during the late 60s, a teenaged John takes over the traditional family farm, slowly turning it into an experiment of art and agriculture, making it a haven for hippies, radicals and artists. The Real Dirt on Farmer John charts the end of this idealistic era as the farm debt crisis of the 80’s brings about the tragic collapse of the farm.

As the intricate weave of rural America unravels, vicious local rumors turn John into a scapegoat, condemning him as a Satan-worshipping drug-dealer. Threatened with murder, his home burned to the ground, John forsakes his farm and wanders through Mexico, where he is transformed by the soulfulness and pageantry of this ancient land. Mysteriously, his quest leads him back to his hostile homeland.

Defying all odds, he gradually transforms his land into a revolutionary farming community, a cultural mecca, where people work and flourish providing fresh vegetables and herbs to thousands of people every week.

The Peterson family farm has become Angelic Organics, one of the largest Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farms in the United States, a beacon of today’s booming organic farming movement.

ETHOS:

http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/ethos/

ethos-cover-poster

Ethos, a powerful new documentary hosted by Woody Harrelson, is an investigation into the flaws in our systems, and the mechanisms that work against democracy, our environment and the the common good.

With a stunning depth of research and breadth of analysis, this film delves deep into the inter-connected worlds of Politics, Multi-National Corporations and the Media.

Most of us have wondered at some point how we have arrived at a situation where democracy is touted as having created an equal society when all we see is injustice and corruption.

Politicians openly deceive the public with the support of major corporations and the mainstream media. Wars are waged, the environment is destroyed and inequality is on the rise.

But what is the source of these institutional mechanisms which – when we scratch the surface – are so clearly anti-democratic, so contradictory to the values we hold in common and yet so firmly embedded that they seem beyond discussion?

Ethos opens a Pandora’s box that has it’s roots in the cross-roads where capitalism-meets-democracy, implicates every power-elite puts profit before people and finally offers a solution whereby you – the viewer – can regain control using the one thing they do care about – your cash.

SURVIVING PROGRESS

http://survivingprogress.com/

surviving progress

“Every time history repeats itself the price goes up.”

Surviving Progress presents the story of human advancement as awe-inspiring and double-edged. It reveals the grave risk of running the 21st century’s software — our know-how — on the ancient hardware of our primate brain which hasn’t been upgraded in 50,000 years. With rich imagery and immersive soundtrack, filmmakers Mathieu Roy and Harold Crooks launch us on journey to contemplate our evolution from cave-dwellers to space explorers.

Ronald Wright, whose best-seller, “A Short History Of Progress” inspired this film, reveals how civilizations are repeatedly destroyed by “progress traps” — alluring technologies serve immediate needs, but ransom the future. With intersecting stories from a Chinese car-driving club, a Wall Street insider who exposes an out-of-control, environmentally rapacious financial elite, and eco-cops defending a scorched Amazon, the film lays stark evidence before us. In the past, we could use up a region’s resources and move on. But if today’s global civilization collapses from over-consumption, that’s it. We have no back-up planet.

Surviving Progress brings us thinkers who have probed our primate past, our brains, and our societies. Some amplify Wright’s urgent warning, while others have faith that the very progress which has put us in jeopardy is also the key to our salvation. Cosmologist Stephen Hawking looks to homes on other planets. Biologist Craig Venter, whose team decoded the human genome, designs synthetic organisms he hopes will create artificial food and fuel for all.

Distinguished Professor of Environment Vaclav Smil counters that five billion “have-nots” aspire to our affluent lifestyle and, without limits on the energy and resource-consumption of the “haves”, we face certain catastrophe. Others — including primatologist Jane Goodall, author Margaret Atwood, and activists from the Congo, Canada, and USA — place their hope in our ingenuity and moral evolution.

Surviving Progress leaves us with a challenge: To prove that making apes smarter was not an evolutionary dead-end.

On the 20-year anniversary of his groundbreaking masterpiece “Roger & Me,” Michael Moore’s “Capitalism: A Love Story” comes home to the issue he’s been examining throughout his career: the disastrous impact of corporate dominance on the everyday lives of Americans. But this time the culprit is much bigger than General Motors, and the crime scene is far wider than Flint, Michigan.

From filmmaker Charles Ferguson comes this sobering, Oscar-winning documentary that presents in comprehensive yet cogent detail the pervasive and deep-rooted corruption that led to the global economic meltdown of 2008. Through unflinching interviews with key financial insiders, politicos, journalists and academics, Ferguson paints a galling portrait of an unfettered financial system run amok — without accountability. Actor Matt Damon narrates.

FARENHEIT 9/11

http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Fahrenheit_9_11/70000505?trkid=2361637

DON’t EVEN GET ME STARTED! The biggest fuck up and slaughter a country could ever directly impose upon its citizens short of the actual act of deploying soldiers into a deadly battlefield. This act of treason by our own government is no different then Hitler’s forces attacking northern German Polish border villages and blaming the Polish in order to get invasion support.

One of the most controversial and provocative films of the year, Fahrenheit 9/11 is Academy Award-winning filmmaker Michael Moore’s searing examination of the Bush administration’s actions in the wake of the tragic events of 9/11.

With his characteristic humor and dogged commitment to uncovering the facts, Moore considers the presidency of George W. Bush and where it has led us. He looks at how – and why – Bush and his inner circle avoided pursuing the Saudi connection to 9/11, despite the fact that 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudis and Saudi money had funded Al Qaeda. Fahrenheit 9/11 shows us a nation kept in constant fear by FBI alerts and lulled into accepting a piece of legislation, the USA Patriot Act, that infringes on basic civil rights. It is in this atmosphere of confusion, suspicion and dread that the Bush Administration makes its headlong rush towards war in Iraq and Fahrenheit 9/11 takes us inside that war to tell the stories we haven’t heard, illustrating the awful human cost to U.S. soldiers and their families.

REEL INJUN

I saw this film at SxSW 2010 and it does a great job of documenting how our native ancestors have been portrayed by film. Up until the 1940s we were viewed as innocent, loving people but then public interest declined and the violent side of conflict and the defense of forced genocide became the focus.

I spend about 30 days a year on native reservations with my elders and at leadership peace conferences preserving and teaching the traditional ways. If this topic is close to your heart, you should follow my feeds and come visit an event with me this summer.

For more than a century, the film industry has depicted North American native people in a variety of ways — many of them wildly inaccurate. Recently, however, that’s begun to change. Director Neil Diamond captures both sides of the coin here. Through interviews with a gallery of actors and directors, including Clint Eastwood, this documentary reveals the film industry’s impact on the experiences of native people in the United States and Canada.

BARBERSHOP PUNK

The above youTube video shows a few minutes of my interview with the director at SxSW 2010. We talked for a long time before and after the film about my ventures and we have stayed in touch since. I also follow Robb Topolski’s blog and his programming work with the Measurement Lab team projects.

http://measurementlab.net/

http://funchords.livejournal.com/

Keeping the independent/punk spirit alive, barbershop quartet fan Robb Topolski takes on the nation’s largest cable company, only to find himself at the center of a federal investigation, inspiring a larger story of censorship, individual voice and access.

Is “The Man” controlling the vertical, the horizontal, and the channel you’ll be on?

In a privatized American Internet, is big business “Big Brother” or does the free market protect and serve the needs of the average citizen with its invisible hand? With the simple act of swapping files, barbershop quartet baritone Robb Topolski finds himself at ground zero of a landmark case whose outcome will affect the rights of every American citizen.

Following one man’s personal quest to defend what he believes to be his inalienable rights, BARBERSHOP PUNK examines the critical issues surrounding the future of the American Internet and what it takes to challenge the status quo.

Contemplating the future of the American Internet and the inalienable rights under review, the film features discussions with Ian MacKaye, Damian Kulash of OK Go, Henry Rollins, Janeane Garofalo, EFF’s John Perry Barlow, U.S. Congressman Chip Pickering, Congressman Marsha Blackburn, Free Form DJ Jim Ladd, Clinton White House Press Secretary Mike McCurry, Michelle Combs of the Christian Coalition, Songwriters Guild President Rick Carnes, NARAL’s Ted Miller, lobbyist Jack Burkman, and FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein, among others.

AMERICA: FREEDOM TO FACISM

This is one of my favorite films. It does an amazing job to provide links and factual documentation against illegal seizure of your hard earned money for INCOME TAX.

It also gives a clear picture of the history of the Federal Reserve. By the time you are done watching this, you should be buying silver and gold like most of my friends and family!

Acclaimed filmmaker Aaron Russo directs this thorough investigation into the creation of the Federal Reserve and the controversial legislation (or lack thereof) that requires all American citizens to pay income taxes. Through revelatory interviews with key members of Congress, a former IRS Commissioner, tax attorneys, agents from the IRS and FBI, and various authors, Russo demystifies federal income tax and the creation of money.

It’s a phenomenon with a name — Colony Collapse Disorder — but no explanation or solution exists. It also lends a personal perspective to the problem by tagging along with a pair of commercial beekeepers as they struggle to keep their bees hearty enough to fulfill their pollination contracts.

PELADA

http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Pelada/70134649?trkid=2361637

I saw this film at SxSW 2010 and it kicked ass. The crew spent a year traveling the world playing pickup soccer games and documenting the cultural impact. They put themselves in harms way several times to get into a game, for the love of it. They bribed their way into a prison game, the girl (Gwendolyn Oxenham) played in a Muslim game where women were not allowed and they almost got evicted from the country and had their tapes taken away; they even played as Jews vs. Muslims in Jerusalem.

After the film I hung out with the crew all night and shared our traveling soccer stories. We even discovered that we had met in passing when Gwen’s UNC team played my girlfriends Husker team.  I am absolutely delighted to see they made it into Netflix’s rotation.

*Two Americans who love soccer but didn’t make it in the pros travel to 25 different countries, where they find people of all backgrounds, races and classes who play the game for the sheer joy of it, regardless of their surroundings or equipment. A pelada, or pick-up game, is spontaneous, serious and fun, and anyone can join in. In exotic locales such as Bolivia, Kenya and Iran, the filmmakers celebrate the camaraderie generated by soccer.

THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME

The pioneers of hard rock take the stage — and blow your mind. Led Zeppelin storm Madison Square Garden in this collection of footage taken from their legendary performances at the New York venue in 1973. Adding to the musical power and drama are hallucinatory fantasy sequences meant to illustrate each band member’s mental state. Songs performed in this swirl of sound and vision include “Black Dog,” “Stairway to Heaven” and “Whole Lotta Love.”

180 DEGREE SOUTH

Inspired by pioneering outdoorsman Yvon Chouinard’s freewheeling 1968 van trip to Patagonia, South America, a band of bliss-seeking surfer-mountaineers sets out — in 2007, by boat — to remake the journey in this adventure documentary. Jeff Johnson and his buddies hug the coast, stopping at the Galapagos Islands and Easter Island before arriving in Patagonia — a region that’s still breathtaking but is now besieged by environmental threats.

Increasingly, Big Coal is spelling big trouble for Appalachian communities whose members have worked the mines for generations. This documentary reveals why with its explanation of the effects of mountaintop-removal mining on the region. Miners, coal company officials and area residents weigh in on the high price of “cheap energy” — especially when it involves blowing off mountain summits to expose seams. Journalist Michael Shnayerson narrates.

When I first arrived in Texas to give some TLC to my 84′ Benz 300 Turbo Diesel I expected a new battery and tire where needed but was not expecting some major structural repairs. I spent a week detailing the entire car including the under carriage and soon discovered a major problem.

Rear PAssenger Quarter

In January of 2015 the suspension arm on my 84″ Mercedes 300 Turbo rusted to the point where the shock absorber mount busted free and made the arm un-repairable.

Mercedes Shock Rust

Luckily, there was a Mercedes Diesel collector and mechanic 4 miles from my current location. On Day 1 I went and visited John Redmond and after 3 hours oftouring his property we came to an agreement. I would provide 30 hours of computer and shop labor in exchange for the replacement parts, use of his shop and his guidance on the repair.

On day 2 and 3 John showed me his computer files and explained what he needed me to do. I spent the day organizing his inventory list.

Redmon Shelfs Redmon Shop Redmon Yard

On day 4 we went into the salvage yard and after 2 hours of dinking around in the rain we were down to the final 2 steps of removing a suspension arm. John then realized that the car behind ours had the bottom facing up so he suggested we take the part off that car instead because it was a lot easier and faster to remove. We got the part off just in time as the sun set.

On day 5 I got the new part painted and prepped and got most of my old part disasembled before discovering the main frame bolt would not come loose.

On day 6 I spent 6 hours trying to find a way to get the frame bolt loose. I worked it back and forth endlessly. I tapped it with a hammer and eventually drilled a hole from the top side so some lube would soak into the threads but I did not have a bit long enough.

On day 7, I found a bit long enough and picked up where I left off. After making sure creeping oil was sliding down the rusted bolt I dinked around with some detailing for a few hours and then went back to torquing the bolt. It still did not come loose so I grinded the head off the bolt so I could slide the suspension arm down and get busy. Once I got the bolt head and the support bracket off, I could see that the metal tube inside the suspension bushing was rusted to the bolt. The bolt itself appeared to be free from the threaded nut.

Suspension Bolt Suspension Bolt Grinding
On day 8, knowing that I was not in danger of warping and weakening the frame bracket welded to the threaded part of the tube I could move forward by cutting around the tube inside the bushing to get the bolt and rusted support tube out. I would then force out the bolt, clean and grease the tube, remove the bolt and suspension, and finally spray rubber truck liner around the tube to reattach it firmly in the bushing.

On day 9, I drilled and cut until the bushing tube and bolt unscrewed freely from the frame.

On day 10, I prepped a replacement bushing and bolt and removed the old suspension arm

On day 11, I moved all of my brake components on to the new suspension arm and replaced pads.

On day 12, I rebuilt the rear calipers and put the new arm into place.

Day 13, the rear differential did not need to be dropped and by having it loose at the same time as the axle bar… everything got tweaked out of place. While forcing it into place my helper stripped threads on the double bolt plate for the differential that sits inside the frame under the gas tank. I called it a night to pray I could tap it successfully the next day.

Day 14, got a break on repairing the bolt thread and got the differential into place but then the support bar was out of line and I wasted all day trying to get the new greased bolt, bushing, catch cover and support bar all to line up for the one single bolt that holds it together. I put a 17mil thick spring spacer on the top of my spring and installed it into place hoping it would raise my car and straighten out my wheel.

Day 15, my helper that messed up on Day 13 was able to get the support bar bolt into place after I left the night before so I started the day on a good path. I got everything together and lowered the car to discover the spring was too worn out for the spacer to help much.

Day 16, I checked the front brakes and made a spring compressor to try to remove the worn out spring. I gave up after realizing I needed to make a tool like the Mercedes manual recommended to remove the spring. It was that or remove the support arm bolt and go through getting it back into place all over again… yuck!  OR maybe I will just live with wearing out the inside tread on my tires way too fast for the rest of my time owning the car.

Day 17, repaired the sides of my seats to strengthen them with duct tape and treated the seats with vinyl protector. Spliced pieces of door lining into missing spots.

Day 18. Tested the turbo by removing the vacuum filter line for the shifting and bypassed it by plugging it up. It shifts smoother and increased my horsepower because the extra shifting filter really is not necessary and decreases the pressure too much.

Learned you can put your thumb over the vent hole on the top of the valve cover to get a good idea how healthy your ring seals are. The longer the engine continues to run, the better the seals. 3 seconds means run away from that engine while 6 seconds is average and 9 or more is like new! Mine is 7ish  🙂
