FRIDAY June 28th, 2019!!!

Time to pack up!

I’m on the home stretch of publishing my next book about all the gems of wisdom I’ve learned over 30 some years and this trip should give me the solitude I need to finish “LIFE WISDOM”.

SATURDAY

We checked in to our accommodations for the week and then headed to the La Brea Tar pit park. This is one of my favorite places in L.A. Today was Latin Music day at the Amphitheater so we had an extra special treat while enjoying the park.

To end the day we went to watch Aladdin at the Chinese theater. It is such a beautiful place to enjoy films.

SUNDAY

We try to make Sunday’s our extra spiritual morning and beach afternoon. We went to the Studio City market and then to explore Simon Rodia’s WATTS TOWERS before heading to Venice for the day.

We ended the day by going to a Studio City pub called “Darts Darts Darts” to watch the men’s soccer team get past Curacao in the Gold Cup quarter finals. Then we took a pizza back home to close out the night with a movie.

MONDAY

I spent the morning working on my book and this blog before exploring the neighborhood. Tujunga Ave. is a lovely area with wild plum trees and Mediterranean flowers everywhere. One thing that was lacking was the presence of Orange trees.

I found this amazing tree house. It was three levels and included some ornate features like wood shutters.

I eventually found my way to the park and got busy with a full leg workout. There are several nice body weight machines at the Woodbridge park. There was also an outdoor workout group for us to mingle with.

We then got on an electric scooter and rode around the hood. There was this lovely rose plastered wall with tile steps and beautiful flowers down the road.

TUESDAY

Started the morning with some blog updates while loading the Dart Connect stream on my phone so I could follow the first PDC qualifier while hiking.

While I got caught up on the blog and photos I watched the USWNT defeat England in the Women’s Wolrd Cup. After the game was over I went and explored the area around the Universal Studios on a BIRD scooter. I learned not to get within 2 blocks of their riding dead zones. It took me 10 minutes to cross a dangerous intersection by the interstate that was under construction and then the scooter shut down saying I was too far out of the riding zone. I couldn’t shut off the billing timer until I returned to the safe zone. It took another 10 minutes to cross the intersection again and then the scooter gps didn’t report accurately so I had to go another 10 minutes back towards where I started before it would finally let me log out. I ended up paying $12 for $4 worth of a scooter ride.

Don’t get even try to go close to the boarder if you are in this situation.

I went back to the apartment and rested before my Tuesday poker tournament. The Tuesday night game in Sherman Oaks is one of my favorites. It is a $50 entry and the pot usually reaches around $1800 making for good payouts.

Due to the 4th holiday the turn out was a bit low but I still got 2nd place and made $360 to pay for my trip. I have made money at this game all four times I have been able to go.

WEDNESDAY

Today I was getting ready for our trip to Vegas so I stayed close to the apartment. I watched more of the PDC qualifiers and the USMNT beat Jamaica to advance to the Gold cup final vs. Mexico.

I spent most of the day doing different work outs in the park and having wonderful conversations with new friends. I met this very interesting Russian born model, psychologist and spiritual life coach women named Nakita. I’m helping guide her on a quest to establish a Spiritual Center similar to what I am forming in Hawkins Texas.

I picked V up from work and we went to dinner with actor buddy, Rod. We went to this lovely outdoor cafe again Aroma’s. It is decorated very similar to what we want to do at the Edom shop with this amazing pergola.

After dinner, we headed up the mountain to do some exploring during sunset. We found some lovely abandoned areas with the remains of unique structures. A few areas around the parks were being zoned to allow new homes to be built which added this cool ambiance from having the combination of the two.

THURSDAY JULY 4th

We got up at 6am to load up. By 7:30am, we were on the road to head for Vegas for the World Series of Darts and Poker.

If you are not on the road early, the sub 4 hour drive becomes a 5.5 hour nightmare. We dodged all of the traffic and made it in under 4 hours. We had one slight moment of excitement that was a once in a lifetime experience. We didn’t really notice but we drove just a few miles to the east of one of the larger earth quakes in California in the past 30 years. This 6.4 earth quake was just west of the interstate to Vegas.

When we arrived we did a lap around town before scoping out the PDC Dart scene at Mandalay Bay.

We then went to Excalibur and checked into our room. We went to the pool for a few hours before going back to the Mandalay Bay for dinner.

We went to the Noodle Cafe and the world #6 PDC dart pro, Michael Smith sat next to us with his family. I took a few pictures and told him “I enjoyed his game; it was nice to him; and wished him some straight shooting in the finals tomorrow.” Michael said thank you very much and told me he was feeling good as he shook my hand.

After dinner we spent $27 each and went to the pool party and firework show. It was midnight by the time we got back to Excalibur so we called it a night.

FRIDAY

Started the morning by getting an all day buffet pass for $38. The food was worth it if you go for all 3 meals.

I spent the morning watching darts and poker at the pool. Then after lunch I hit the gym until 3:30. I did a little more writing and then headed over to the Rio to watch the WSOP Main event action and play a little poker.

Upon arriving at the Rio there was a line of poker players being escorted to a new table assignment so I followed them to the hot zone. We walked through the casino gambling hall and rounded a corner to the entrance of the convention center. As I continued down the hall more WSOP signs and advertising was on display. The hall opened up to a grand entry area that housed all the WSOP clothing merchandise. Beyond the grand entry was the first entrance to the biggest room called the Pavilion.

As I walked around the tables in the Pavilion I was able to watch some of the higher profile players including Norm McDonald, Kevin Pollak, defending champion John Cynn, Jamie Gold, Shaun Deeb and Jesse Sylvia.

I was near Kevin Pollak’s table when one or two players started standing up at each table and quickly headed for the exits. I couldn’t understand what the commotion was all about but a few seconds later people near me started pointing at the ceilings!

We were experiencing a slight after shock and the light platforms along with any other lose items were swaying back and forth. I was moving around stretching during the 3 seconds of the shake so I didn’t even notice it. The WSOP Director announced that the players were to take an early dinner break and return in 90 minutes for safety reasons. The dealers had to stay at the table and guard the chips during the commotion.

I wanted to get to the ESPN filming area known as the Thunderdome before the convention center was locked up. It was possible that the tournament may be suspended for the remainder of the night and I wanted to experience the featured tables in the Amazon room so I worked my way through the 4,000 some players to reach the Amazon.

I had to wait for the next person to open the door in order to gain access into the locked area. Once inside it was amazing. The featured tables were highlighted by neon signs and surrounded by camera equipment and video screens. I took some video and pictures and then explored the rest of the area while waiting for the tournament to continue.

WSOP thunderdome

I spent the rest of the night, until 1am, watching the featured tables with Jamie Gold and Jesse Sylvia. You can see me in the background of the day 1c programming on ESPN! Vanessa was keeping busy with some entertainment of her own.  😉

Vegas buns

I returned back to the Excalibur to walk Vanessa back to the room from the lounge she was relaxing in.

SATURDAY

The previous 2 days were so busy with the PDC Darts and WSOP events that I didn’t have much time to play any poker myself. I jumped out of bed at 7am and headed to the Excalibur poker room to get some action.

At 11am it was time to check out. We loaded up the car and headed to Red Rock Canyon park West of town.

We made it back to L.A. about 6pm and went straight to a pool party at the top of Laurel Canyon.

After the party we went to check in to our new accommadations where V will be staying in L.A. before hitting the road for filming.

SUNDAY

We started the day by watching the USA women’s national team beat the Netherlands in the World Cup final. We then went to explore another new farmer’s market. This time we were at a Laurel Canyon / Encino market.

Encino Market

After the market we went to the Mediation Gardens on Sunset. It is one of my favorite Sunday destinations.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

After the garden, it was time to head to a sports bar to watch the men’s Gold Cup final against Mexico.

Soccer party

We ended the night by going to stand up night at the Comedy Store on Sunset. A few well known comedians were on the line up.

I went straight to the airport after the comedy finshed at 10p. Unfortunately the traffic was extra slow and there were no delays on my flight. The biggest problem however was that I was in such a hurry, I missed a sign redirecting me between two terminals and the next thing I knew I was passing through a security exit. This caused me to have to start the check in process all over and repeat the previous 13 minutes of the journey. Once I arrived to the gate that was listed on my ticket, the gate display said Orlando instead of DFW. I asked the service rep and she explained that the gate was changed from 39 to 34. I then gave up because after all the delays, I was already 8 minutes past the final boarding time.

By the time I made it to gate 34, the service rep told me the flight was departing and I would have to get in line for a stand by ticket. I quickly met 4 other parties that were about to begin the same tedious game of stand by with me. We didn’t know it then, but we would be playing 5 rounds of this game over the next 10 hours. Our original flights were scheduled around midnight and finding an open seat on any other flight would be left up to luck due to others missing their boarding as well. LAX to DFW is one of the most highly demanded flights because they transport a large portion of international travelors.

This father, son, wife and their dog were first in line. Followed by a young girl wanting to transfer to a sooner flight, a young man traveling solo and then me. There was also this elderly Asian man who would ask the same question over and over each time we were transferred to a new flight and gate.

The mom, dog and son got on a flight at 6am. The young girl got a seat on a 7am flight. There were no seats open on the 8am and 9am flights. The father, the young man and I all finally got a seat on the 10am flight.

I made it to DFW at 3:30pm and there were no seats available on the 5pm flight but I was given the final available seat on the 9pm flight. The 5pm flight was canceled due to possible lightning and I quickly took the opportunity to make friends with a businessman who clearly had his life together. We discussed sharing a rental car and he picked one other businessman to join us. There was no sense in me waiting around the airport for another 4 hours with the high probablility that the flight would be canceled anyway.

It turned out that the other passenger fella lived next door to my most recent customer out in the middle of nowhere Ben Wheeler country side.

We dropped off the Ben Wheeler man at his house and then siad our good-byes at the Tyler airport bringing my July Los Angeles adventure to an end.

Stay tuned for my next journey. In late July and early August I plan on taking my bi-annual birthday adventure to the Colorado Rockies, Black Hills and Sturgis motorcycle rally!

Time to pack up! Whenever going on an extended trip, the fridge has to be emptied of perishables.
2019-03-29 Fridge Cleanout

This trip is happening in the middle of Tax filing time so the days leading up to departure were filled with office tasks and last minute paper work.

I was able to get everything packed in time to play a few hours of poker on my way out.

Leaving the wildflower bloom of Texas and heading to the Southwestern desert super bloom!

March 30, Saturday

I was traveling with Vanessa on this trip so we had a few extra fun stops planned. The Cubs were in town playing the Rangers but we were heading out late and didn’t have time to stop for some batting practice.

We wanted to reach Tucumcari, NM by 9pm Mountain time to check in to our cute little artsy hotel on route 66.

March 30, Sunday

Sunday morning we walked the art covered route 66 over to a nice cafe for breakfast.

Diner

It was then time to research Montezuma Castle National Monument, Havasupai waterfalls and other cavern crevasses for the days exploration on the way to Mesa/Phoenix for the evening.

Havasupai was too far out of the way but we headed for some other great areas. We went through Tonto Forest over to Roosevelt Lake and the Tonto Monument for some preserved cave dwellings.

We drove through a nice brief snow on the high bluffs and then entered the lovely areas where flowers were blooming.

Tonto

It was getting dark as we entered a mountain pass that followed the Salt River into the city. It was about 20 miles to the other side but as we moved forward the pavement stopped and the road got narrow as the guard rails vanished high above the river cliff so we had to turn around. Better to be safe when there is an easier known path. It would require us to back track 40 miles but at least we would be traveling 70 mph instead of 20. Either way, we were going to arrive at our hosts place around 830pm.

April 2, Tuesday

Started the first half the day recovering from the road trip with an extra long yoga session and workout. Did some beach prep and then worked on the blog, trip planning and taxes.

day3

The weather was too cool for the beach so I just walked around the neighborhood.

day 3 suculants1

April 3, Wednesday

Too cool and cloudy again so I just spent the day looking for poker and darts information and studied the transit options. Got my day planned out for Thursday. I went out in the evening to check out the general neighborhood. I passed a girl in her 20’s crying and asked if I could help her. Meculah explained that her friend couldn’t make it to pick her up and she was stranded 40 miles from her house. Meculah’s phone battery was dead and she didn’t have a backup battery or power cord so she was having a panic attack. She couldn’t look up travel options and didn’t know what to do. She walked back with me to get my power cord and we talked and did some meditation exercises to calm her down while her phone charged. I refilled her water bottle while she decided to pay for a taxi home. I gave Meculah some pointers on taking the transit options and then continued on my walk as her ride drove off.

When Vanessa got home I drove us around Mulholland Drive for a mini sunset adventure. We found a trail head but it would take me about 15 minutes on a scooter to get up the canyon so I’m not sure if I will go do it or not.

April 4, Thursday

Did a quick workout and then wrote down my transit details for the day. I decided to go explore UCLA and then hang out in Santa Monica and hopefully find a poker game. The weather was crappy so I didn’t get to work on my tan but I did get on a bicycle and got a good workout in. I biked all the way down to Marina DelRay while getting reacquainted  with the Venice life.

As I strolled Venice I was sad to see the House of Weird never recovered. It was a great attraction that has been featured on many films. Some of the people (attractions) have found new shelter and remain in the area panhandling on the streets.

One of my favorite things to do when I am in Venice is to work out. There is Gold’s Gym (Muscle Beach) and the Cirque Du Soleil training area with some great options to workout.

day 5 acro

April 5, Friday

I did my taxes most of the day and then went exploring on the bus to the Japanese garden and the Sepulveda water basin. I jogged around that area and then got on a bus north to the dart tournament at a Lounge called Tender Glow. The Basin park is a massive area where tons of people have parties. They bring bouncy houses and setup all kinds of cool decorations! It is such a large area that there are a lot of transients camping in the woods and even the parking lots are full of RV’s. Law enforcement just asks them to move their vehicles around each day. The views are amazing.

It was about 3 miles north and 3 miles east of home base so not too far. It still took 1.5 hours on two buses to get there though. I passed this really nice rock garden along the way.

day 6 rock garden

At the tournament I shot great but the competition was difficult. My partner was not as accurate as my opponents so I had to make sure I hit the winning shots on my first try. Eventually I missed a couple and was eliminated in 5th place.

April 6, Saturday

We went to Topanga Canyon for breakfast. The health food options are amazing and there are so many cool little cafes. I love relaxing in the canyons.

I got to visit one of my favorite areas. In the past I had been active on the Topanga Chamber and Earth Day Committee which led to me spending a lot of time there with my buddy Will Pallagi. We didn’t find the road to the party ranch we used to spend the night at but we did find the park where I was in charge of the recycling for the Earth Day festival in 2010.

We also stopped at few market shops and took some fun pictures.

From Topanga we went back to the Sepulveda Lake park to get some spiritual celebration time. There was a Hare Krishna color festival waiting for us. It is a time to dance, chant and sing while rubbing ceremonial paint colors on those around you as a blessing. It is messy but really exciting.

We closed the day out by going to the Pet Cemetery Movie. It was very scary and I had a hard time watching it. I had some ear pressure that was also causing me eye pain so I had to wear sun glasses and shut the bad eye quite often but I made it through it. The film had a new ending from the previous movie and it caught everyone of guard. Let me know what you thought of it?!  🙂

Sunday, April 7

Started the day by taking the colored clothes to the laundry mat while Vanessa made us breakfast. We then headed out to her favorite Studio City farmers market. The market is always an enjoyable way to spend the morning.

day 8 farmers

From there we went downtown to the Renegade Craft fair.

day 8 market all

The location of the Renegade Craft Fair is in a park on the edge of China Town. It was a nice return to my past. This same park is where I enjoyed one of the funnest festivals ever. This is the site of where the Post-Burning Man L.A. decompression event is. You can read about that in my previous blog https://wordpress.com/post/freehelpinghands.wordpress.com/1227

Right next to the park was the warehouse district where there are amazing underground parties. I had another blast from the past vision in my head as we walked by the site of a High Times 420 party Will and I went to.

After the craft fair, we headed back through Topanga to watch the sunset on the beach in Malibu.

Monday, April 8

I left early with Vanessa and had her drop me off at the train station near her work so I could get down to South Bay as quickly as possible. I was going to go have lunch with one of my best buddies and former LA roomie, Sung. We have a ritual where we always hang at the Hermosa Pier and usually have drinks and lunch at this table over looking the beach.

The Long Beach train line is under construction so there is a major time delay due to a required bus detour. This construction really makes a metro visit from north L.A. to south L.A. unenjoyable. I left Woodland Hills at 9:30 and arrived at the Manhattan Beach station shortly after noon. It was so exciting being back in my old neighborhood. I walked around the soccer field on the way to Poliwog park where Sung was going to pick me up. Poliwog has a wonderful botanical garden to chill out in. I love reading and writing in this garden.

day 9 duck tanAfter lunch we went past Sung’s new house to get a tour and then he took me back to the train. I made it back to north Hollywood right on time and Vanessa picked me up to go to her birthday party at a Pizza cafe in Studio City.

Tuesday, April 9

I spent the morning doing some writing and house chores and then headed off to Runyon Canyon shortly after lunch.

Wednesday, April 10

I went inland yesterday so today I am going coastal. I walked around the neighborhood on the way to the bus stop. There are beautiful gardens everywhere you look.

I got off the bus at UCLA to hike through the campus first.

As I waited at the bus stop I was approached by another wonderful adventurer.
(IG @StephanieByNature) Stephanie was trying to figure out the fastest bus or train route to the airport to catch a flight. We reviewed the transit maps together and exchanged contacts before boarding different buses. Once I was back on the bus I read about her adventures. She focuses a lot of energy on raising food and delivering it to people sleeping outdoors.

My next stop was the ocean to get some tanning in.

Day 11 beach

After my ocean fun, I headed back to Hollywood to meet Vanessa for a fun night at the Hollywood Improv for a ladies night special set. When we got out of the car I noticed we were in front of a store owned by one of my followers who actively comments on my adventures. (IG @Jannikolander)

Comedy Clubs are one of my favorite places to spend an evening.

Thursday, April 11

Today I followed the same path as yesterday but with a different ending. I moved past UCLA quicker so I could have more time at the mediation gardens.

I left the beach at 3pm so I could spend at least an hour at the meditation gardens before they closed at 4:30. This is one of my favorite garden parks in the world. https://lakeshrine.org/

Day 12 garden

After the gardens closed I headed over to Temescal Canyon for a sunset hike. This Canyon is one of my favorite hikes in LA because it has the least amount of people yet you get some nice ocean views and a stream trail as well. Head over to my youtube channel to view some of it.

day 13 temescal history

After sunset, I headed back by bus. It takes over 2 hours to complete the route going east to Sepulveda then north to Ventura and back west to Topanga north of the Mountain ridge.

Friday, April 12

I enjoy the Sunset/Beverly Hills/Temescal area so much that I wanted to spend one last day there with more time to go hiking. I had Vanessa drop me off at Sepulveda on the way to work and then I took the bus straight to Temsecal Canyon.

This time I hiked the east ridge to the boarder of Will Roger’s State Park until Vanessa was able to come join me.

We hiked the river trail for awhile and then it was time to head to my evening poker tournament. I won again and finished with a $250 profit. It was my last night to make some money and I finished below my goal for the week but I was ending the trip with more than I arrived with.

Saturday, April 13

South Bay is one of my favorite areas of LA and I have only been able to make it over there 1 time so far on this visit so today we are spending most of the day there.

It takes 1 hour and 45 minutes to go from Topanga down the PCH to Hermosa so you can not really do much else unless it is along the way.

We went to a Greatful Dead cover concert with the band called Cubensis. I try to catch one of their shows every visit.

Day 14 Cubensis

After the show we went for a little stroll and sunset on the beach.

Day 14 sunset

We closed the night out with a spiritual Kirtan and the Bhakti Yoga Shala. http://bhaktiyogashala.com/

Day 14 kirtan

Sunday, April 14

Sunday is a great day to be in LA. Some of my favorite things to do in LA happen on Sundays. I like to start the morning at the LA market on the way to the Agape Spiritual Center.

There is a center for day to day gatherings but on Sunday the celebrations are at the Saban Theatre. The theatre is amazing and the energy is so eclectic. Check out this video clip on my youtube channel. There is always several successful/famous people sitting around you or performing on the stage at Agape.

For lunch, I love going over to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Culver City.  This Hindu temple provides the most amazing vegetarian dishes for a very low price. ($6.95 entree’s and $2.95 sides!)

After lunch, we meditated in the temple as they prepared for Owner of the Ford Motor Company Foundation to arrive for a speech. Alfred Ford is an amazing inspiration and philanthropist. He has given a lot of his families fortune to spiritual causes.

Day 15 ISKON lineup

Then we went into the structure next to the temple which houses the Museum full of animated Vedic Diorama’s. It is only $10 for an amazing 45 minute tour through Hindu & Krishna history. Please check it out when you are in the area and make sure you give them some reviews on their yelp to help encourage more people to visit!

We finished our visit by participating in a fire prayer ceremony. This is a series of purification chants mixed with the burning of sacrifices like rice, sage, cedar, flowers, oils and other items. Check out the video on my youTube channel.

Day 15 ISKON fire

After we left ISKCON we went on our own little spiritual quest to harvest and bundle some sage. We know this amazing hike that is covered with white sage.

After such a full day, the time had finally arrived for me to depart back to Texas. I had to wait an extra hour and 30 minutes to leave because the flight crew was delayed. I barely made my connecting flight in DFW with just minutes to spare.

I’m living near Honolulu for awhile so I’m writing about some of my highlights.

I arrived late in the night and went straight to bed. The birds and cool ocean breeze wake me up at 5:30 every morning so I get up and start stretching. I eventually work my way outside to a lava stone pad over looking the ocean waves as the sun rises. After a round of yoga, meditation and weights we go for a walk or jog. Playground equipment down the street provides hand stand and pull up bars and hopefully some soccer practice.

I’m wishing I would have brought the drone along to get some aerial shots but here is what I got to share….  enjoy!

So far the wind is keeping the volcano ash, glass and gas toxins from circulating around Honolulu is large quantities. It was raining was I arrived and I am very cautious of the toxin content in the rain however. It is only a matter of time before I get enough exposure to confirm or deny any danger. Stay tuned…..

After morning workouts were complete we went to the Kaimuki district for lunch and shopping. I found a near perfect salad at the Big City Diner with a view of these wonderful murals. The neighborhood Goodwill had just what I was looking for. I picked up a $8 Pilate ball, $12 work boots, a $3 bamboo yoga beach mat and $3 ankle weights.

For the afternoon we went to the KKC (Community College) Succulent Gardens and Farmers market. And then completed the evening at a blow hole cove where you can do some dangerous undertow cliff diving.

Day 2 (WED 6/6/18)
Time to go get a bicycle. Found a few options on craigslist to go inspect.

First chance I get, I am going to go jog up this step incline crater called KoKo Head.

20180605_170915.jpg

Completed the days workout and then studied maps of the area until it was time to go for a ride. We drove to Waikiki for a walk and got an Acai fruit bowl and pineapple-banana smoothie for lunch.

From Waikiki, we had to go on a scout near the KCC park again. I explored a Community Center and found some weight machines to use while Vanessa and the Producer did their thing. I used the free time to do more research on places to play darts and poker. I got some good replies and began planning everything. There are weekly dart tourney’s on Fridays at Y’s Sports Bar and poker at a few home games. I also got a reply confirming a 730p appointment to buy a decent $80 bike for $20.

After answering a few questions, I was given the location for a poker game that was ready to start and I headed over to play. The game was in a private condo of a high rise so I had Vanessa hang around until I gave her a safety call. Upon entering the condo I was greeted by a very friendly and beautiful Hawaiian gal. She explained the rules as she showed me around. The first room had a buffet bar setup, the second room had the NBA finals on a big screen with a full table of card players. A third room was setup for another table game and then there was a nice clean bathroom and a balcony (Lanai) connected to it.

First time players get a free $50 and you get another $100 if you bring a new player with you. You also can make another $1-200 on bonus hands. The cards were very favorable to me this day. I had a run of high pocket pairs with medium size pots. I played very conservative the first hour as I studied my opponents. One newer player with deep pockets decided to call my pre-flop $35 raise and then call another $130 raise to chase a flush while I was pushing with a top pair over the board. This $350 hand would be the only large hand I would lose. Shortly after, I hit quad 7s for $120 pot but when my opponent folded I assumed the $100 bonus would be dead and I mucked the cards. I then discovered that I would get the $100 regardless if I showed my cards. After 2 hours, Vanessa was ready to go to a Jazz Club for the evening and I cashed out with $103 profit.

We went to a fancy Jazz Club for the nights entertainment. The Blue Room was $23 to enter with a $10 min. purchase for a 60 minute set. The theme for the evening was Amy Whinehouse, which I have never really listened to. I enjoyed the experience but unfortunately my stomach as not right when we arrived and the music was not settling. The club had too many speakers and they were way too loud to enjoy the music. I prefer a calm soothing acoustic jazz experience in a small scratchy joint like the Zoo Bar in Lincoln Nebraska. My current situation was only made more irritable by the herd of cattle stampeding shoulder to shoulder in this Waikiki district. The human over population found in such a metropolis just makes physically ill regardless.

At the end of the night we went to pickup the bicycle. I assumed there would be a few repairs needed since the bike was only $20. The owner was a bit shady about needing a new tube unfortunately. This will be a difficult challenge for me tomorrow as I need to take the wheels off the bike with no tools and then I have to walk the wheels to a bike shop to get new tubes installed.

Day 3 (Thursday, 6/7)

I had to cut my workout short on this morning because we needed to leave by 9:15. We went to midtown for Vanessa’s first appointment. I meditated from the top of a tall building over looking the mountain valley. As I came down from my meditation I noticed a massive tree claiming nearly half the block next to me.

I hiked over and discovered this ancient Kapok tree covered in human waste. This tree has survived longer than most any other on the island and here it is being disrespected by people too self centered to keep the space manicured. It made me cry a little as I looked around for something to hold all the rubbage as I picked it up. After 30 minutes I filled a plastic tote with the help of 2 lizzards. I was tempted to dump it in the middle of the street to make a point but choose to set it on the corner for people to notice as they waited at the light. Hopefully a few of the 1000+ driving by were inspired to make a change. There is little to no reason for us to support packaged products in this day and age where everything is in such abundance that lightly used items are available in second hand markets. And what packaged items we do need to buy so badly, need to be responsibly biodegradable or mass recycled.

Islands especially, have no where to bury this trash so they burn it and recover a very small percentage for energy production. A much larger upcycle is present with the recycling process instead.

Our next few stops were at film & job site sets. It is always interesting to experience construction and film mixed together while in progress.

We then drove this long bridge road through a safe section of the volcano to go enjoy a few hours on Kailua Beach and pickup some things at the areas shops.

Day 4, Friday 6/8

My goal is to start working out shortly after day break each morning and have breakfast completed by 8am. I want to jog to the beach or other parks and start writing before the mid day heat. In the middle of each day I want to drive or bike around exploring and then play poker until I make $200. Te sooner I hit my $200 goal, the sooner I can get back to enjoying the outdoors.

Here is a image of my workout area in the back yard over looking the ocean.

20180608_065542.jpg

After my workout I took a skateboard over to the beach and completed the first 2 pages of the 2017 Helping Hands Comic. (Long over due I know!)

Skater Tim

This would be my first day to go explore on my own so I needed to get the bicycle tuned up. I was worried that the tire tubes would need replaced because the hand pump was not working. After I was done writing I took the bike over to a service station to use their compressor. Everything worked out great. Both tires ended up being good so I was able to start riding around. I lubed everything, picked up a new lock and some lights and started biking to the beach.

I enjoyed the Pan Pacific Festival and sunset at Waikiki before ending that at a blind draw dart tournament.

The tournament was very challenging because it was very crammed together plus it was handicapped against me and the throw lines were too far back. I struggled between the appearance of cheating as I stood in front of the line but at the actual correct throwing distance. My opponents knew why I was doing it but yet they honored the incorrect distance and just the psychology of the situation really lowered my accuracy. I compensated just well enough to win the tournament with a friendly lady who enjoyed her drinks while staying calm when the games were a bit hairy.

Day 5 Saturday,  6/9

Today was a King’s birthday so there was a parade from the Palace to Waikiki. We enjoyed the parade and a larger farmers market and then walked around a nice art district.

We also found a Banyon tree that the locals use as a playground. Several people were taking turns swinging from the vines so we joined in.

When I was exploring yesterday, I found a great secluded park where people openly accepted pets and the clothing optional custom so I took Vanessa to hangout there until it was time to go to the evening dart tournament.

Day 6 Sunday 6/10

Spiritual Sunday is a good reminder to doing something extra spiritual. We used the day to explore some temples. On the way to our first destination fate steered us towards a nice hiking trail at the peak of the valley we entered. It was surrounded by a  Pacific Pine forest. I hiked until the elevation surpassed the Pines climate and it opened up to more of a brush vegetation. The path was constantly muddy because I was so high that I was in the rain clouds. I reached the summit and got a wonderful view of all of Honolulu on one side and the mountains valleys on the other.

We then spent a few hours eating our picnic lunch, reading and drawing at the Japanese Garden on the UH campus.

We closed the night with sunset at Bellows AF Base Beach and then watched the Han Solo Star Wars movie at the theater by our house.

At the end of week one, I have made $103 at poker and $35 at darts. I’ve spent $20 on food, $40 on supplies (Bicycle) and $11 on a movie.

WEEK 2 –

Day 7 Monday, 6/11

I was falling behind on my writing goals so I did a quick workout and then spent the first half of the day writing. Around 2p I headed to the beach and then over to poker for most of the day.

On the way home I took a road that follows the coast around Diamond Head crater. It was a very enjoyable path with amazing mega mansions. It is hard to believe that nearly 40% of them are vacant. You can even explore several lots where the original structures have been demolished. The expensive landscaping features are just left behind to give you the feeling that you are wondering around a park of some kind.

There is only one elevated climb for about a half mile and the rest of the way you can relax. Near the highest point you will see this lighthouse and a few grand entry’s like I have shown above.

Day 8, Tuesday, June 12

Leg day workout! I shifted in to high gear soon after waking up. I skipped my morning yoga routine and went straight to the bike. By 7:30 I was biking 2.5 miles towards one of the highest peaks on Oahu called Koko crater. It was used as a military missile defense bunker at the top and it has a rail system that was established to haul supplies and soldiers up and down. It has been opened to the public to use as a training trail. Over 1,048 rail tie steps assist you on a climb to the peak. (images below from Google Images)

Once I reached the top I did a 15 minute meditation and 15 minutes of yoga while being surrounded by a group of college girls from Brasil. A few other yogi’s were also practicing near me and (IG) @YogiNja81 took this amazing picture of me below. The silhouette of a Brasilian gals hair blowing in the wind towards me while meditating makes a great picture.

For the evening, Vanessa and I went on a lovely wind down hike. We were joined by a lovely rainbow near us at the top of the Wa’Ahila Ridge.

Day 9, Wednesday June 13

What a great way to spend my 21st anniversary of what I call “my second life”. On June 13th, 1997 I should have been killed when hit by a car while riding my motorcycle but higher powers spared me to continue inspiring others towards positive change.

After focusing on an upper body workout to start the morning, I committed 4 hours to complete some more writing goals before hitting the beach.

We finished the day with a light tower hike. It is about a mile long trail with a gradual incline that provides lovely cliff views.

Day 10, Thursday June 14

After stretching I began searching for a plane ticket back to Texas. I used the morning to get some more writing done and then went to the beach for awhile. The next 2 days we made reservations at a camp site on the northern shore so a few hours today were spent packing for our weekend adventure.

The drive around the north shore is much more enjoyable because there are far fewer buildings and people. The roadside however, has a large amount of abandoned vehicles.

The north shore is also home to several shopping centers where groups of ran down food trucks provide the locals a way to generate income. There are several within minutes of our campground. We loaded up on food just before checking in to our cabin.

The Lanei campground contained about 20 cabins and another 20 tent spots with several outdoor fresh water showers spread in between. There were two private bath houses with plumbing which help validate the $65 nightly fee.

Our #10 cabin probably had the best location out of all of them. Check out these pictures!

As the sunlight faded we enjoyed a walk on the beach and then settled in for the night. The cabin beside us had 3 ladies in their 30s and a mid aged man who enjoyed their alcohol under the stars. It was a bit breezy for me but we sat outside and watched the stars for a bit before going in to play a Hawaiian language card game. The sound of the waves and the cool breeze was so comforting that we were sleepy within minutes of starting a movie.

Day 11, Friday June 15

At times the wind and waves would wake us up. The view was so amazing that we could not help stepping out on the porch for a few deep breathes and late hour meditation.

As the sun rose, here was the morning view out the door.

The day was spent relaxing and doing yoga on the beach, swimming and laying around reading and writing. We went over to a food truck court and had some wonderful Thai food for dinner. The evening was a perfect repeat of Thursday night.

Day 12, Saturday June 16

More walks on the beach followed by short workouts and a little reading before packing up. On the way back to Honolulu we drove the rest of the way up the North Shore to the H2 expressway exit. We stopped at a farm fresh cafe and got an amazing veggie pizza and smoothie. I pulled over at a few beach areas along the way. One spot had some cliff jumpers surrounded by coral pool snorkelers. We also walked around Haleiwa waiting for time to catch up to us. I was going to a big $3500 dart tournament for the evening and Vanessa had fun night planned with the ladies.

I arrived at the tournament site 2 hours early to allow me time to play 10 games on a Dartslive rating card. It was a requirement to have this in order to play the event. The boards were unable to pair my card rating with the handicap software though so I still ended up borrowing the top rated card available from the event organizer.

I was fortunate to get paired up with a solid player. Paohoeo was a 5 foot, 120 lb. local from the Wahiawa area. He has lived here over 50 years and has watched the sport of darts evolve around him. The top pro rating on the Dartslive rating scale is 18. Pao (Peter) was a 5 and that basically means he hits what he is aiming at 1 out of the three darts.

I’m a 16-17 so we took both our ratings combined as a team and in comparison, all of the other teams had total’s below ours with the exception of one team. This would require us to give all the other teams a head start most of the tournament. The head start makes it very difficult for pro’s to win. Dartslive software also has created a shadow around the fair start procedure. Top competitions use a cork/diddle to choose the player who starts first in a tie-breaker game but this tournament allowed the computer to choose.

We won our first 3 matches with the help of a lucky finish. We escaped a very close game 3 where we played cricket with only points. A standard cricket game hits 3 marks on the 20 through 15 zone and the bullseye and the winner is the first to do that. The winner may be ahead in points if needed. In this game both teams closed the 20 & 19 zones. I closed the 18 and our opponent closed the 17. Our opponents remained slightly ahead of us on points and went most of the game without closing the 18. It was so close that I told Pao to never throw at the 17 because the Dartslive software stops the game at round 25 and it was likely going to come down to points. Our opponents gained a 100 point lead and threw at the 18 four darts in the final 3 rounds giving us the advantage. My very last throw of the game in round 25 required me to score over 100 to win. Two tripple 18’s equals 108 points and I was very fortunate to do just that to allow us to win the match.

We had a great run to the final 8 on the winners side before meeting Hawaii’s top ranked pro, Philman Reyes. The winner of this match would have a smooth path to the $1900 final. We split the first 2 games. Pao hit a perfect finish to win the first game of 701. Philman out shot me in the cricket game 2. We were awarded the start in game 3 and began with the advantage. I held my average and the lead down to the final rounds before having a twist of bad luck. I made a poor decision and slightly over corrected my final throw which allowed Reyes to take the win. My $550 for first started slipping away into the night.

We won our next match on the down side of the bracket and I began studying the other remaining 6 teams. The losers bracket format was only 501 games. All the other teams had low averages and I knew we would be giving up a large head start and I would need to throw near perfect to make it up. The next match had a player evenly matched with my skill level but he had a 43 point head start and won the start. We both rarely missed and took turns winning the first 2 games. He got the start in game 3 and his partner out scored mine just enough that I never got a shot to win. We both missed 1 dart in round 3 and he finished the game on 116.

It was a fun night with many new friends but I’m left with the bitter finish and lack of a Philman rematch to make up for my quarter final failure.

Day 13, Sunday June 17

We were so worn out that we took the day to relax and watch movies. We did take a nice sunset walk. It was a perfect cloud formation and the beams of light were amazing.

Day 14, Monday June 18

I twisted a muscle wrong during my workout so I spent most of the day writing and taking it easy. At the end of the day we went and hiked Kuliouou Ridge. You drive up the neighborhood and park on the street at the top of the valley and enter the trail there.

I could have taken better pictures but I was focused on doing a trail video for the YouTube channel vBlog.  https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF934F9293E21137B

Day 15, Tuesday June 19
Spent the morning updating my WILL and organized videos on the youtube channel. Finally added the 360 videos from last week and promoted them on the Facebook group. Spent the afternoon writing some more.

Day 16, Wednesday June 20

Still recovering from some back pain. Went for a walk to the park and spent the morning writing. After a challenging poker day last week I convinced myself to avoid Monday’s game and go into today with a better attitude and larger bankrole. I was still feeling the disappointment from letting 1st place at Darts on Saturday slip away from me but I convinced myself to stay positive. I’m glad I went because I had a good run of cards and took down an extra $350 in pots. Every once in awhile you get that Ace-Jack TX Hold’em hand where the board runs mixed 8,9,10 and you get 2 callers chasing into a massive pot. The Queen turns to keep the flush alive while making our straight with the Ace as a river bonus. I put it all in to force out the flush draw and one caller with 10-Jack stayed in expecting a chop at worst. My night would be made if a non flush King showed up for the river and that was exactly what we were delt!!!  🙂

I left shortly after knowing a win like that would rarely come back in the same night. After getting home I was able to get a few more hours of writing done thanks to the rush from that success.

Day 17, Thursday June 21

Today I finally finished the 2017 edition of the Helping Hands Comic. Issue #13 is now available on Amazon. A sneak peek is also available here on the blog for our supporters.

I spent the day with Vanessa as she did her tasks. The bike tire was flat this morning so we stopped at a shop and invested another $17 for a new tube install. We ate a great salad and smoothie at a Vegan Peace Cafe and then went to a lovely hidden beach cove near the Ko Olina resorts. I about injured myself on the slippery reef rocks trying to lay down with a Tortoise. TAKE YOUR TIME & STAY LOW ON REEF ROCKS. The lava rocks especially have jagged Knife edges every few inches that will end your life quickly.

For dinner we went to a Sushi cafe where the items go around you on a conveyor belt. We spent the evening with another one of Vanessa’s amazing friends. They all have such interesting successful lives. Today’s friend was a Laker Girl alumni.

Day 18, Friday June 22

I try to start most days with a new exploration during a bike or jog after a brief lifting or yoga session. Today I went to a new beach called Kawaikui. It was one of the best yet. You start at a nice park with plumbing and showers and stone picnic tables and then you can walk about a mile along the beach behind nice mansions.

I did a bench workout and then jogged the beach. Along the way I found the best nomad shelter yet. This person found a great clump of tree’s to hide a large tent and several coolers. Most people would not have noticed the entrance. I found several nice teal rocks, coral and petrified walnuts. I also found 2 perfectly weathered limbs to use as walking sticks. One section lies behind a church that had organ music and a wedding service in progress. The best discovery was a black sand section. A black sand beach with very few reef rocks or large chunks of coral is very rare on Oahu.

Once I returned to the house I checked the latest youtube blogs that I like to follow.
Hall of Fame Poker Player, Daniel Negreanu has a great blog going during the WSOP. Today he posted a heart felt message about wanting to help more charitable causes after a big multi-million dollar win so we wrote him the following message. We have been on a mission to get more supporters of his caliber so it would be great to be on his friends list.

*CHARITY POST – So sorry to hear about that horrible beat today Daniel. That was the definition of sick…. to be near top stack with the best hand & suck a big stack all in just to be crushed on a 2 outter. I’m about to play a PLO cash game in Honolulu today and hope to avoid such a hit. I even feel bad when I’m on the winning end of a huge suck out.
I PLAY FOR CHARITY also. I have set up a national network where our supporters share stories about causes in need and then I direct the resources as they become available. You can read about our Charity at: wordpress.com/FreeHelpingHands and message me for more info. We have currently raised about $6k of $50k needed to purchase a community center property east of Dallas and that is our main cause this month.
I follow your path more than most because we share a lot of interests like soccer and Vegas life and healthy veggie eating/living etc. My life is basically the low budget grinder yogi version of yours. Hope to talk more with you about your Charity/Philanthropy goals soon.  Blessings.

I spent the afternoon starting comic issue #14. I’m way behind my writing goals at this point with only 3 days remaining on the island. I really hoped to have the next edition of “Life’s Little Secrets” ready by Sunday.

After the morning routine, I went to a beach further east of the house. This beach had the best stretch of soft black sand that I have experienced on Oahu.

After Vanessa was done working I took her back to walk the black sand beach at sunset before going to a dart tourney.

For the evening tourney my partner was a quite shy Japanese woman named Nao. She was calm and confident in her ability and only asked me what to aim at when our Cricket games were close. We only lost one game on our way to a first place finish.

Day 19, Saturday June 23

We went to a flea market and did some urban hiking along the city marina.

I don’t write about food very often but I can’t close out this blog without talking about how many great health food options there are on Oahu. There are very few sources for junky fast food which allows for an abundance of these health cafes. On the days we were out for meals, we  would get veggie sandwiches, gourmet pizzas or fruit filled Acai bowls and smoothies.

20180623_143558.jpg

We closed out the night with a romantic gourmet pizza under the stars on the marina and then went to the new Jurassic Park movie.

Day 20, Sunday June 24

On Sundays we try to focus on doing something spiritual. My final full day on the island would be spent driving the east coast up to the north shore to go to the Buddhist temple with the highest praise. The Byodu-In temple is a shrine to the god of balance and equality. We had an amazing day of meditation. Check out these images.

There are more videos on my Instagram and Facebook. Including some 360 images. Enjoy.

We ended the night with a walk along Waimanalo beach.

Day 21, Monday June 25

Time to pack and go enjoy one last beach day. Heading to the airport at 7. I hope you enjoyed this photo journal adventure. Our last night was spent on a ocean cliff the locals call China Wall. It is a perfect spot to tan and jump into some deep waves.

I arrived home to some plants in need…

Monday I went to do yoga at Runyun Canyon and hike with a friend. She offered to give me a guide of Santa Clarita so I went along for some R&R. It was an area I was not familiar with.  Tuesday we went to a hike around an old retired horse ranch. It was a 6 mile hike with shade and nice sunny peaks. There was also a large field of white sage which only grows in selective locations. It was only the 4th location I have found in all my exploring.

On the way home I met a wonderful actress/model who was unusually talkative. She didn’t volunter her number so I gave her mine and prayed that I would hear from her.

Once I returned home I had a memory chip waiting for me for the laptop so I would spend the next 3 days upgrading my laptop to windows 7 pro from the Starter edition. If you need to do this, use the method where you enter a “anytime” serial number rather then a series of complicated bios and command prompt tricks.  I backed up my info out of caution and it was needed because my boot master file was corrupted causing the data on the primary drive to be formated.   I eventually got the laptop stable by Friday so I went to meet Shhmokewear Will to progress on the closing of our contract and then I went back to Santa Clarita to get away from the city.

Spring had arrived which means 6 out of every 7 days through March are cloudy and wet.   The entire weekend was stormy with hard winds so I stayed at a friends and got a lot of writing done and finished sewing my hippy shorts.

The next week I was planning on heading to Lake Havasu but two girls asked me to dance with them at the weeks Greatful Friday event which included a spirituality workshop on “three little words”.  So I took the extra time to order a hammock and nite bag for the trip.

Monday the 19th would also mark the beginning of a wonderful friendship with daily contact up to the present moment.  The actress would turn out to be very spiritual, well educated in literature and a delight to discuss the world with.

When Friday arrived, she was unfortunately ill and being cared for so going to make her hot soup was not an option. Instead I went to the event to meet up with my dancing friend from Azusa. We would have a wonderful night. I walked her to the car at 3 and then went back to dance until the sun came up with my tribe friends.  It was fun yet another heart break of a night, going home single.

It was Sunday before I knew it and I started looking for rides to San Fran to get to the Yogi commune. I was about to take a ride on Monday or Tuesday but was then asked to spend a day with my friend before leaving.  I would take the 26th-30th to get 2 issues of the comic well organized and I got the story book organized and printed so I could edit it on the way to San Fran with out my laptop.  Saturday I got up at 6 with excitement for the day and passed an hour by going to an REI used camping gear sale. I scored a $80 pack for only $19!

I arrived in Santa Monica at 1 and my exploring partner would arrive at 1:30.  We walked the strand, talked over some Indian/chinese at Mau’s kitchen and then relaxed on the beach deep into a philosophy talk.  The weather kept us from making it to the Meditation garden and made us too tired to go dancing so we went to the store and got food to cook at her place instead.

As I learned she was short of work, I offered to use some of our food grant funds to stock her fridge plus I was eating some of it any way.  After our meal and movie we discused that it made sense to stay the night so I could get to a church just 10 blocks away early in the morning.  Sunday, April 1st.  I did my morning yoga and then took my friends kitchen trash with on my way out. My first stop was CBS Studios and the Grove Farmers Market at 3rd and Fairfax.

The place was amazing and even though it was in the middle of yuppy celebrityville, the prices were fair. There were over 100 vendors. It reminded me of the Texas flea market. The land and businesses established here have always been owned by the Gilmore family.

I passed out some Topanga flyers and ate a bananna and muffin then walked 10 blocks to the OasisLA.com church.

I was expecting an Agape spiritual experience but instead it was Christian Rock so I cut out early and took 2 buses to get to Venice Blvd and then walked 15 blocks towards the Center for Hare Krishna Consciousness, New Dwarka Iskon temple.

Along the way I was drawn to the Royal T Art Gallery and cafe. Inside they were having a vintage goods swap meet. Good vibes surround those using barter to replace capitalism.

As I continued on my journey I ventured into a Masonic temple to discover SpiritWeaves.com. This spiritual gathering was all about prayer through rythm, dance and vibrations. About 50 people were dancing around me loving each other and massaging and doing interactive chanting. Another first for me.

Next door was my final destination, the Hare Krishna conciousness, New Dwarma Iskon center. They were setting up for a fire celebration in the yard so I had time to eat lunch at their buffet from 2-3. As a beautiful indian princess walked by me, I asked her to tell me the story of the days events.  She was very kind in explaining it was the arrival holiday for a god dheity and there was going to be a fire celebration and then Iskon entrance with flower throwing and song and dance all night.

The fire celebration was amazing. First the group walks a pilgrimage with drums and chants to announce the beginning. Then the sand is drawn and blessed, then the spices are added and color, then bits of wood and oil corolate with certain prayer chants. Flower and fruit blessings and grain is tossed to the fire in offering to the spirits.  The closing sees the groups wrists wrapped in red hemp and then they circle the fire smoke in song and dance.  My host princess would visit me a few times to guide and encourage my participation. At the close I took her picture and gave her my contact in hopes she stays in touch.  She then led me to the temple to continue in song and dance. We duplicated a lot of the same offerings as outside. The princess then came back to me and whispered in my ear that she had a vision of me while at the alter. She asked me to stay put while she went to get me a gift.  I went to my bag and all I had to trade was some Sage. I told her that it was used by the natives to clense and purify. She brought me a flower leigh and Radhanath’s The Journey Home book. We then continued to dance and celebrate.  In the middle of the ceremony there was a 15 min story telling explaining the history of the dheity being celebrated.

My new friend then went to the kitchen to help staff prepare for the after party meal. After closing prayers the rest of us followed to the kitchen.  The Indian combination of spicy rise, fried bread, pickled slaw, cooked peanuts, and rice raisin pudding was full of wild flavors. I then sat by the door and held up my sign asking for a ride to the bus station.  As 8:30 neared I went to the temple and picked out a happy couple and asked them for a ride. The man hesitated but then he realized it was a chance to look good in front of his wife and told me to get in.  I was on my way home safely and the walking was done.

I got my mom and my actress friend on chat and shared my days adventure.  It was now time to arrange my ride to the yogi commune north of San Fran.

Monday Dec. 19th, I was still sluggish from a virus but I did my swim and weights anyway and watched Contagian while getting ready for work. This day was spent negotiating my contract, obtaining a new phone for the Helping Hands Network sponsored by Claxton and updating balance sheets.

Tuesday was spent doing a practice run on Will’s tasks to limit questions while he was in Ohio.

Wednesday was spent improving sales systems with Sean and then coaching my 11 year old soccer stars. It was the winter solstice so I got the Shhmokewear Entourage in the van and took everyone to a ceremony followed by a full night of live music and dancing.

The Solstice ceremony was a bunch of kind loving people sitting on the floor of a large coffee and art establishment sharing thoughts about improving the community. Bells and other Indian music vibes were being carried around those in the circle as well as burning sage for purification. After the talking was concluding, bands and DJs started playing until the sun came up.

Thursday my soccer kids had a scrimmage scheduled only a mile away so I was excited to see them in a game situation. They did great for playing kids 3 years older then them. They were ahead the whole second half before a last minute goal tied it.

Friday I got everyone paid, improved our inventroy process, edited contracts and improved forms before heading off to the Chavez community gardens and Mariachi plaza. I met with the director of the garden projects, Irene Pena and we talked about joint charity efforts for about an hour before I headed over to Mariachi.

The plaza was filled with dancers, musicians, farmers produce and other fun vendors. I was a few minutes behind on the train getting to an xmas light hike with Sung at the Greek Theatre.

I pulled up to the Greek just in time to jump in the hike line and meet Sung. The group had just finished their hot cocoa and muffins and started mobilizing. Along the hike a nice belly dance instructor and fitness coach named Anja with Czechoslovakian roots. We walked the hike to the peak of Mt. Hollywood and then the group did some trivia questions for prizes. By the time we made it back to Griffith observatory we were pretty snookered from our bottle of wine. Anja was still enjoying our company but she took a bathroom detour and a beautiful Russian girl started talking to me. It was hard to keep both girls entertained but Sean had my back. The Russian Vegan was deep in conversation with me the first 10 minutes down while Sean and Anja talked. Then I reached a good point to get back to Anja.

As we reached the end we invited both girls to come to the Korean Spa with us to finish the night. As we were leaving I noticed the most fluffy skunk ever waddling beside us.

In Hollywood even the skunks are high maintenance. Seriously, on our way to the Korean spa after our hike, a skunk was walking along the curb and it was all shinny and fluffy like it just walked out of a salon.

The first spa was family oriented and coed so they profile strictly. They asked if we had been partying and Sean let it slip we just had wine so they refused to let us in. The second Spa was more mature so sobriety did not matter. It was great to spend the evening in a hot wet sauna, dry sauna, jet massage shower, hot salt tub, ice tub, hot shave and lounge room for $20.

We returned to get my stuff from the office and then headed home. After we recovered around noon on Saturday, we went out doing some window shopping then relaxed with some movies at home.

Sunday morning, we got up at 8 and went to the beach to workout and do yoga. We then returned home for breakfast. Sean went to his moms the rest of the day and I went back to the beach to play volleyball.

The rest of the day I talked to friends and family and shared my travel blog and edited stories and photos. I was really feeling the pain from being alone these holidays. My life is nearly perfect and full of wild adventures and I live free and in the moment. I am in perfect health, with an ideal diet and strong muscular body and most say I am very attractive and have the most amazing green blue eyes….yet the biggest thing, the most important to me… the one thing I would give it all up for… a true soul mate and supportive woman….. still alludes me!

Nothing happened on Monday the 10th but Tuesday was a full moon and it was my first time being invited to the secretive Moon Tribe gathering. The tribe is a made up of all types of free thinking spiritual minds that celebrate for a wide variety of reasons.

Some of our group left in the middle of the day but several would not get off work until later so we had a second bunch leave in big momma around 8. The destination was in the Mojave desert about an hour west of Las Vegas.

We knew where to turn off the paved road but finding the right route through winding paths in the sand was a problem. We took a wrong turn and were several miles in when we hit a real soft spot and got stuck. A few of us picked a hill in each direction and climbed to see if we cound see or hear the group. We then pushed the van out of the sand and made Scott run and jump in as we followed the sound of drums and light to the party.

We were able to avoid the $15 entry by coming in on a side entry so it worked out great. The spot was marked by the only trees growing in the desert within view. There was 5 of them in a circle forming a natural amphitheater. The DJ and concert speakers were on one side while the drum circle and acoustic lovers were around the fire on the opposite side. The outter edges of the camp had fire spinners, hoopers, and people with all sorts of glow things…including a remote control plane.

We set up a hammock and blanket to mark our base and then everyone split up to mingle. The people were wonderful but after dancing through to sunrise I found no one to connect deeply with so I let loose and lost awareness. My pictures of the gathering were mostly blurry as were my memories of the night.

As the sun rose all 7 of us joined back up in van and headed to the gas station on the highway. Will was too tired to drive so another Tim took over as we all slept. About an hour down the road we woke up to Tim screetching that the van died and we were coasting to a stop on the left side of the road. It turned out that Will was so out of it that he didn’t remember to pump the gas at the station!

We could see an exit down the mountain and if we could just get to the slope we could coast off the exit. We prayed big momma would start back up to get us out of traffic and our prayers were answered. As we made it to the exit we could see gas ahead so we all jumped out and started pushing like a scene from Little Miss Sunshine.

We made it to the pump and dropped to our knees in celebration. After remembering to pump the gas we headed home. We all took naps and tried to do a few simple work tasks in between.

Thursday we edited our contracts so we could move forward knowing where we all stood on expectations. Friday we reviewed the week of work and then Sung picked me up to go camping.

We had 2 locations in mind and flipped a coin to decide. The destination was to be Mugu Beach park area. It was just after dark when we got there and it was full so we found the largest campground in the area and headed for Lake Casitas.

Only about 100 of the available 400 spots where filled so we had our choice for the best spots. It was $25 a night but included several extras validating the high tent cost. The campground had showers, a water park, playgrounds, general store, electric, disc golf and even a remote plane runway.

The road went around the lake and up cliffs for about 2 miles making for a great bike ride. Sung and I road over a great spot of the disc course over looking the entire lake and took a bunch of pictures. On the way back he got a flat so I came back with the Tacoma to pick him up.

We met several great people around us and shared our fire and movies with a few. One lady and her daughter travel around booking story telling gigs at festivals. Victoria and her daughter were great company. I took Sean to the Hot Springs just 5 miles up the Ojai road and showed him the hiking trails.

Sean was a great spirit and surprised me by letting loose to enjoy the hot springs naturally the way they were intended. There where a few attractive girls around us doing the same as well. After several hours of chilling in the river and hot springs I took Sean to the trail entry and then back to camp.

Sunday morning we packed up and headed to Venice Beach. We met up with Neil for drinks and walked the boardwalk. I looked over our Shhmokewear booth manned by Scott to make sure he was taken care of on the way back to the car. When we got home SP could not find his phone and concluded he must have left it in the bathroom.

Monday, Nov. 28th was a busy work day. The holiday shopping rush blessed us with $1500 in retail sales so the day was full of shipping.

I would get a text from Steph explaining she could not get back in time to see me and her other friends so we just agreed to have Tuesday breakfast. This made it less challenging to get time to play tennis with Julia.

After work I went to help coach the 11s advanced soccer skills. Around 8 as practice ended I noticed Julia watching from the bench. After practice we biked 3 miles to the closest tennis court with lights. We shared some great conversation throughout the night and I even added a few spanish words to my vocab.

She was amazingly coordinated with her feet but her hand eye coordination left me curious if she was intentionally trying to get me to flirt while helping her. We had ablast non the less. On the way back she showed me a local community meditation garden.

Once I escorted her back to her bus stop she said she enjoyed my company and we should make plans after her class in the morning. As she road away, I realized my phone must have fallen out of my coat at the soccer field. I got lucky and someone answered in Spanish and Alejandra was near by to translate. Unfortunatley she wrote the address down wrong. I rode 2 miles to 6th street before looking up the address and realized there was no 327 on 6th so I gave up.

In the morning I went by Julias class to let her know I did not have my phone and asked if we could do something together in her area tonight. After getting that set I rushed back to see if Steph had found her way to the office for breakfast. I was not sure if she would cancel since I could not check my texts. Thankfully she followed through and was just parking in front with the Stang.

I found a 329 6th street about 4 miles east of us so I asked her to go towards it while looking for breakfast. We tried to call from in front of the house with no answer and I asked a neighbor if they had any ideas without luck so we gave up and went to eat.

Finding a pancake in little Mexico is very challenging but we managed to do it. After breakfast we kissed good bye and it was back to our normal lives.

Tuesday after work I took the subway to Julia in Hollywood. She took me on a romantic stary night hike up Griffith park to the observatory. The sexual tension was mounting as we cuddled on the make out cliff. I remained curteous and avoided makinjg the first move because she had just gotten out of a life long conindrum. Helping others through domestic troubles has been a big part of my philanthropy projects so I know she needs me to be a friend above all else and be very cautious if advancing over time.

I want to try to do more things as a group with her but I let her know I am sexually attracted to her also so she does not have to wonder what I am thinking.

Wednesday, Nov. 30th was a normal day at work but after soccer practice the wind picked up. A parent brought my phone back so my life was reconnected. In the late hours a wind storm with 90+ mph winds knocked a tree down on our neighbors and took out the neighborhoods power.

Thursday I rode around looking at the damage and got interviewed for the news. Got our necklace some publicity. I went to the human services office and post office to follow up on things and then spent the rest of the day working at McDonalds. After dark the crew came to join me since power had not been restored. We took some photos in playland and found our way home to restored power.

Friday I met Julia for a walk after dance class and invited her over for dinner. She tried to get a sitter but could not so we just chatted online until bed time.

Sat. morning I headed to the Labrea tar pits and museum park. It is a great place to listen to street performers and take pictures. After dark I worked on photos in a coffee shop until it was time to go to a house party.

The house party was one of the top 5 I have been too. You walk in from a secure 1st level used for storage and proceed to the 2nd floor where met by Djs, couches and a nice stage light system. Off to the left was a rail car shaped bedroom with the movie, “Breaking Bad” projected on the wall. It was like being in my own room, surrounded by plants and budhist art and incense. In the corner was the birthday boy, Evan’s, personal vinyl mixing settup.

Going back through the dance room, I found the kitchen stocked with fresh veggies and booze. Beyond that was another sittind area and then a bathroom. The bathroom had a ladder to take you to the roof. Up on the 3rd story roof you could see a beautiful view of the downtown skyline. I was one step closer to my goal of finding a roof top dance club. I hope to find one soon before moving on.

After some small talk with new friends and looking at what few stars are visible from downtown I worked my way to the alcohol mixing station. Orange juice and ginger ale with my Sailor Jerry’s it would be.

I chilled in the movie area while talking to some few interesting moon tribers. About 1a a bunch of the Shhmoke Entourage showed up, including Blaine, Alejandra, Scott, Will and our Beat Boxing champ, Mr. Mammal Gabriel and guard brotha Vic.

It was a good setting for Gabriel to get to know the crew a bit more. In between dancing most the night, I showed off the new glass Shhmokewear to the group of attractive models and fended off their sirene like calls for free samples.

As the sun came up around 6, I drove the crew home in Big Momma, parked it at Shhmoke and then took the rail back home to South Bay just in time to clean the house and welcome Julia and her friends. We were having a day at the beach together.

When they showed up I welcomed them to discuss our plan for the day. Her friend brought 7 yearold Josefine with for the day. The energy within the soul of the child was very connected to me. It was said she rarely welcomed strangers but on this day she would end up spending all the time talking to me. I was worried Julia would grow jealous from the lack of attention I was able to share but time will soon tell.

We walked the ocean beach a mile from Redondo to Hermosa Pier and shared laughs over lunch. The little one enjoyed riding on my shoulders on the way back to the car. Once we got back to the condo we relaxed around the pool before they had to leave. I was hoping Julia could stay late for dinner and a movie and take the train home but she decided to go.

After they left I skipped my evening soccer game across the street and passed out the rest of the evening.

Woke up and it was sunny so I was motivated to get my yoga done in the hot tub and swim some laps. Then I lifted, did some P90 cardio and laid out to tan and dry a bit while eating breakfast. Then it was off to Shhmokewear and my bus tour of downtown.

Our news video coverage in Orlando was passed to the Associated Press and school boards around the country so sales were coming in fast. Some were from school drug awareness programs so we announced a discount code for them.

Tuesday morning, we were featured by Perez Hilton and gossip of the pot bracelet spread quickly for even more web traffic and sales. We were sure to reach a few celebrity endorsements now. We quickly started working on a sales contract for Sean.

Wednesday I went and applied for a PO box and medi-cal coverage then after work I got our newest artist, Lee, to drop me off at AgapeLive.com in Culver City. He just happen to live by there.

The Agape begin with 20 minutes of meditation and then expand into singing. There is a book store and the walls are covered with paintings of all the leading peace activists and prophets of most religions. The singing and gathering is lead and organized by Ricky BB of the the Black Eyed Peas and her husband does the preaching. The crowd really gets into dancing. The singing was just like being at a BEP concert but there are 4 sessions of preaching and Michael Beckwith’s style is too loud and energetic for more then the first 15 minute message. I met BobbyJasso.com sitting beside me.

AgapeLive.com

I would step out during the sermons and browse the book shop and then return for the singing. I met a wonderful young man sitting behind me who was willing to give me a ride about 3 miles northwest to Santa Monica. He was looking to find his spirituality so I told him my story about traveling the world building the Helping Hands Network.

The next morning on the bus to work I met a nice guy who was in the comedian circle and had a connection to Snoop. He told me a good way to reach Snoop was to get product in his Serius Pimp store in Orange County.

We considered going to a Jamaica Dub Step night at Marbella in Hollywood but decided to work late so we could have a sales contract ready for Sean.

I went around looking for a soccer game and a used skate board for my evening workout.

Friday, Sean came over to sign his sales Rep contract and then we drove to Redondo and chilled at the pad for the night. The gorgeous latin girl I met my first night at Occupy finally added me and said hi on facebook. It had been 5 weeks but better late then never. We ended up chatting for an hour and made plans to meet at the Elysian park by Dodger stadium on Monday and maybe Occupy on Sunday. I told her about partying at the Vortex the next Friday and camping with the burners over Thanksgiving and she welcomed the invitation.

Saturday, Sean and I went to the gym and then shopping at thrift stores. I got hemp shorts finally, and quartoroy pants and some rasta swim shorts that were a bit too tight. I also picked up some brown Perry Ellis shoes to match and 2 picture frames for Bellas art gift.

It was almost 6 by the time I got to Bellas for dinner. She took me to a prayer gathering and along the way I was caught in a judgement turn at a light. People were coming at me and another turning in front of me while I was entering a left turn, then someone walked into a cross walk 3 lanes away behing me. A cop was right there and decided to cite me for not yielding to a pedestrain. In California, they send you the fine amount in the mail and assign you a court date. If you don’t get a written note you have to appear in court.

It was such a Mickey Mouse decision by the officer and there was no way for me to avoid losing money that I would be bummed whole weekend. Even if you show up at 8:30am for court, it is 3 hours out of my way for travel; 1+ hours wasted there plus I still have to pay the court costs. It ends up being the same as just paying the fine so the whole system is a damn sham…yet just another reason I Occupy LA.

The prayer service was my first direct Muslim experience. You take your shoes off when you walk in and the girls are sitting along the walls while the men sit in a circle in the middle. The gent beside me welcomed me and would whisper the translations and details. Their prayers would break into hymns at times and some would sound similar to Budhist chants.

The prayer session begun with everyone welcoming and shaking hands in a walking line and then one after another you take the next spot on the circle. Once the circle is completed you sit and the Shieke begins the prayers. First you have the days prayer, then prayers for your loved ones. Then you stand and form a sideways line facing the Shieke. The translator whispered that each gesture represents a unique prayer and they recite God is Pure 33 times, then God is All mighty 33 times and God is Loving 33 times and then God is great to complete 100 prayers while doing the gestures made up of knealing, kissing the ground, bowing and moving your arms. It was challenging for me because my buddhist soul just wants a clear mind while absorbing the elements around me while chanting and humming.

They say Salam Malakam meaning hello and Malakam Salam for good bye. Salam can be used anytime in blessing and then they touch their heart. We all shared in a meal after and I just followed my translator around to mimic his action in order to not offend the custom. The men still remained separated from their women but Bella brought me food and asked me to sit in the middle of the floor with her. She quickly corrected my direction as I first sat facing the women.

After we were done, we talked about meeting her friends at a club to dance but decided to just go relax at home.

I gave her a cartooned variation of our meditation garden picture completing the gift portion of our Muslim dating ceremony. This exchange freed her to openly explore her sexuality without pressure and guilt so there was not much sleep to be had on this night.

Sunday Nov. 5th, we eventually got out to Will Rogers Park. You could walk around his ranch house and look into the windows to see how he lived. It is similar to walking around Elvis’ Memphis plantation. We hiked around the horse stable and up the mountain to an amazing look out spot. We could see the coast all the way to Catalina Island.

As we returned to the car we sat and watched a group playing soccer. I then took Bella back home and then headed to South Bay for movie night with Sung.

(continued from NE to New Orleans chapter)

I had to leave New Orleans a bit earlier then hoped partly because there was a hurricane heading towards me.

After 3 weeks I had; helped the city park clean up recycling; volunteered for a few green house projects; planted bull grass in lagoons with a Save the Wetlands group; planted around the amusement park and looked for people to help outside the park area. I had not found a host with a safe place to park my van by the day the edge of the storm arrived so I headed northwest. I hope to line up a more secure place to stay before my return at the end of October 2010.

With the storm behind me, I marked the nearest camping spot on the map and set course. I spent the next 3 weeks moving around between camping spots. More details about these days can be found in the next volume of our fundraiser book. As Thanksgiving approached, I headed north to be with family near Dallas.

My first destination was my cousin Darla, near Lake Hawkins. Her Husband had passed away and she had a few projects that I could help with so it was the perfect spot to make camp for a few weeks. It didn’t hurt that her property was a mile from a gorgeous lake. Over the next few weeks I improved a septic ditch, fixed a few things, cleaned up litter, burned trash and brush and organized her storage building and tools.

The lake had a few perfect spots to focus on my writing for the next book. There was a peninsula park that stayed in the sun longer then any other spot in the area. There was also a beach and campground with a dock that I could get a wifi signal on. The signal must have been coming from a boat house near by!

On colder days I wandered around looking for new spots to work. I found a city park in Hawkins that had a strong wifi signal so I spent several afternoons there getting eBay stuff listed. A worker at a bank next to the park and another neighbor complained about me hanging out there two times but other then that it was a great spot.  Another great spot was the Daily Grind Coffee Shop in ..Mineola… The owners were a couple of hippy type peace supporters. Even though they were not selling much, they keep the place open so the community has some place to gather. They have a pool table and organize card nights to attract as many people as they can. They didn’t mind me hanging out there to get work done most the day.

For Thanksgiving I went to ….Paris…. where cousin Kay and her family, Dennis, ….Josh.., ..Jordan…. and Jeremy lived. I was invited to stay for the weekend so I started looking for things I could do to help out around the house. They didn’t have much I could do but I did help hold their spots in line for the black Friday experience.

One day I went to a park with Jeremy and we played some ball. Another day I went to a parade with Kay. When everyone was busy I went to a soccer field and did some workouts. On Sunday I went to a St. Paul”s Baptist Church. I was approached by the church mother, Joan Mathis. She noticed I was by myself so she asked me to sit up front with her group. After the service, the pastor/deacon asked me some questions about my efforts. Once I explained how my goal was to battle depression by building support groups of peaceful, earth friendly, truth patriots in a barter based economy, the deacon wanted to contribute.

I told the Deacon that once I got a bit more organized, I would send them more info. After I was done talking to the Deacon, Joan asked me to join her for dinner. I only refuse invitations if I have another event scheduled so I followed her home.

There were a bunch of youth from the neighborhood and another assistant Deacon joining us. The neighborhood was mixed middle class with some nice houses and a few with busted windows and salvage vehicles. I felt safe in Joan’s presence but would not walk the streets at night.

Once inside, I realized how much Joan and her deceased husband had done for her community. There were all types of letters and awards around her house for events they sponsored or organized. I helped prepare the meal and set the table while telling the children my stories. After the meal was finished and the table was cleared the deacon played some organ music while Joan led in some singing. The day reminded me of when I used to spend Sundays with my grandmother.

The next day I went to the soccer fields to workout and this wonderful lady noticed the writing on my van so she pulled up and wanted to know about me.

Charlene ( ) was at a difficult crossroad in her life. She was passionate about life as a christian and needed guidance. I gave her my contact info and asked her to follow up with me. We would soon be editing each others notes for publications.

From Paris, I headed about 90 miles south, back down to the Mineola area. My uncle had a few projects that he didn’t have enough time to finish so I worked around there a few days. I also got a lot of writing done while passing time until Christmas.

I enjoyed my Texas family’s hospitality very much so I stuck around through Christmas to celebrate with them. I drove around with cousin Lydia, husband (John), kids ( ) and Madison to see the areas holiday lights. They also had a fun pre xmas party at their place on the lake. When a couple of their friends get together and share stories about their high school trouble making, there is never a dull moment!

For Xmas day everyone was meeting at Lydia”s so I spent Xmas eve at another party with her and Darla then went home with Lydia. She invited me to stay the night so I would get a bit of the Xmas morning celebration with her kidos. I was so thankful for all the love they gave me. I had been missing it from my Lincoln family ever since dad died in 2005.

Xmas day was great. Kay’s family all made it from Paris and the food was amazing. The only thing missing was our elder, uncle Ken, their father. He was on a semi run and had timed it to spend time with his girlfriend’s family in Az.

The kids got new laptops, psps and a Play station 3! They were so fortunate to have family with money to spend on those expensive things. When I was a kid, my parents would go in debt to put just one expensive thing on credit so all the kids could share it so their gifts were just as shocking to me as they were to the kids.

After pictures were done, the food was gone, and the games completed, we all went separate ways. I went back to Darla’s and regrouped. Not too long after, I was invited to a party for the next night. I had been looking for something fun to do that could include a friend and this was perfect.

I had found a nice girl in Mineola to spend time with who could help organize a support group in the area so this would be a chance to get together. I texted her and she accepted my invitation. We had been in the local coffee shop at the same time but she usually has her kids with her so we never got to talk much so I was excited when she was able to go out for an evening.

On the night of the party, I followed my cousin to the location to make sure I would not get lost with my friend. I went in and met everyone and then checked in with Alisa. She asked me to come get her after finishing with a care taking client so I went and picked her up. Her friend gave me the standard 20 question interview and told me she just wanted to make sure she was not going to have another stalker. After I passed her test, we drove out to the party.

After about an hour of socializing and playing Wii with cuz Darla and her date I noticed some interesting packages around the house. I was not aware it was going to have an adult theme gift exchange after everyone was lubricated with party favors. I have been in plenty of embarrassing situations so I was all good but I was holding my breathe to see how Alisa was going to react.

It was great! As everyone joined in a circle to play white elephant exchange, sexual conversations filled the air. Everyone joking about what they thought this or that was and which package they would pick. Alisa smiled and joined in the conversations like she was their best friend. She hadn’t even known them for a few hours so I was amazed. Alisa would be perfect for organizing group events here when I was gone.

As the gifts got passed around and the talks got extremely perverted, Alisa’s comfort increased along with her enjoyment. Darla’s date was doing just as well but being a bit more shy. The experience was one I will remember for a long time.

After the party Alisa knew where there was karaoke by the lake so we went there. We learned a lot of interesting things about each others lives through the evening and would be great friends. At the bar I met her friends and all my other neighbors. It had a nice biker bar atmosphere so I was comfy seeing my dad raised me in that surrounding.

From there I took Alisa back to her friends where she would stay the night to avoid the drunken stalker knocking on her door after hours. Had I known that when we were by Darla’s I would have offered the spare room and breakfast. All in all it was a great time.

As new years eve approached, I checked in with my LA buddy Sung Park. He was ready to ring in another decade with me so I packed a hitchers bag and made sure my items at Darla’s were where she wanted them. I was prepared for a crazy hitching experience! My uncle Ken then told me that he could get me on board his semi but it might not get us to LA in time.

As NYE drew near we would find that his schedule would not have him leaving until the 2nd. I decided that Sung and I would find another adventure and act like it was NYE instead so I was fine with waiting. It gave me one last night of partying with Texas family. Alisa was with her kids so I went to Lydia”s for her NYE party.

I was so anxious for LA that it was hard to be in a partying mood. I enjoyed the party but kept my wits so I could drive back to Darla’s to sleep and watch football the next morning. I was packed and ready to go on the 2nd. Darla gave me a ride to the drop point where uncle Ken was waiting and after some hugs, I was on my way to So Cal!
